In 2009, the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act 2009 was passed. The Act aimed at protecting the health of the public, including young people, from the adverse effects of smoking cigarettes. Availability of cigarettes can harm the public since it increases the introduction of nicotine amongst young adults and youth, causes commencement of alternative combustible tobacco smoking, and slowing or avoiding the termination of combustible products by nicotine-smoking addicts. Also, it increases the probability that past smokers will go back to addiction or other combustible goods after being re-introduced to e-cigarettes (Murthy, 2017). E-cigarette usage does not positively impact its users, and various researches confirm that they are more harmful than conventional combustible cigarettes.

The importance that Interdisciplinary Collaboration would have Related to the Policy

Interdisciplinary collaboration in the formulation of e-cigarette policies is essential because it helps various disciplines work jointly while respecting each other’s healthcare perspectives. By collaborating, the fields work more effectively as a team to provide the best policies to reduce the risks of e-cigarette smoking and help those addicted (Murthy, 2017). This is so because healthcare depends on various disciplines functioning mutually to cater to patient needs.

Ethical Concerns

Public health continues to experience ethical concerns concerning e-cigarettes. The healthcare sector had identified ethical issues concerning e-cigarettes usage as a recreational product and a harm reduction device due to their ability to influence non-smoker, their ability to reduce cigarette smoking, and their likelihood of normalizing public smoking again (Murthy, 2017). Such issues have brought about the tension between liberalism and utilitarianism in healthcare ethics. Utilitarianism intends to offer the most significant public health advantage by weight of disease reduction and liberalism holding people’s right to self-determination.
