Healthcare reforms have varying effects on healthcare delivery. Such reforms aim at broadening the population that coverage that benefits from healthcare services, expanding the number of healthcare providers, improving the availability of healthcare providers, improving the access to quality and improved healthcare, providing more care to citizens and reducing the costs of healthcare among other benefits.

The reforms have impacted many sectors in healthcare including the use of technology (Walt & Gilson, 1994). Patient care technologies such as devices that monitor blood transfusion and information technologies such as the use of electronic media record play an important role in making sure that the healthcare services provided are of high quality. This has made it easier for individuals to access healthcare information, made healthcare services more flexible and enhanced accountability in healthcare organization as there are more effective tracking systems.

Healthcare professionals have been affected by healthcare reforms as well in that, healthcare administrators are more visionary (Andel et al., 2012). Nurses have become more coordinating at the work place with the aim of providing high quality medical care. The reforms have enhanced new opportunities for nurses especially in care management. In addition to that, healthcare reforms have made it possible for nurses to be employed by healthcare payers such as insurance companies so that they can increase quality outcomes.

There are several negative impacts of the reforms to healthcare in that healthcare systems will have more to do on their own as they manage the influx of new patients. There has been a reduction in Medicare reimbursement. Moreover, healthcare facilities will be forced to deal with much paper work and oversee the new members covered by insurance companies. However, the reforms have enhanced efficiency and have helped hospitals to reduce on operational costs as well. Healthcare facilities have changed from free-for-service model to value based healthcare model that prevents excessive spending.
