The errors that happened in the case of Lewis were administration of too much Ketorolac, and the fluids administered were not adequate. His parents identified that something was wrong and communicated it, but the healthcare staff involved, but they did not listen to the concerns. In addition, the staff was of the opinion that the equipment was failing instead of acknowledging the fact that there was a complication happening with the patient. The vital signs for Lewis Blackman were identified yet when they were already beyond parameters. The relevant staff was not informed, and no action was implemented. The vital signs were actually ignored. A reduction in the amount of urine produced was not identified also. His parents requested that the physician in charge of the patient be informed, but it never happened. The healthcare staff involved failed to respond to Lewis, who was in distress. Lack of compassion and love by the nurse also contributed to the errors and outcomes.
If I were Mrs. Blackman, I would have been so angry towards the medical staff in the hospital who failed to attend Lewis appropriately. I think I would have developed a lot of hatred towards the staff and maybe revenge for my son by using them so that they, to some extent, suffer some pain differently. I would have lost confidence and trust in medical staff because of the event. If I were the nurse who committed the error, I would have felt that I was the cause of the boy’s death and that I should have done something right to save his life. I think I would have felt so guilty and maybe consider myself so inhuman and inconsiderate. It would have been such a terrible thing knowing that a person lost his life because of an error I made because of being ignorant. I don’t think I would have forgiven myself for the error.
