The development of crimes in the society has been associated with several factors. These factors have been linked to crime with the aim of proving the fact that they increase the levels of crime or the fact that they somehow initiate criminal activities. The use of drugs has had significant relationships to nearly all kinds of crimes. Majority of the drugs have been known to have an effect on individual’s judgment or decision-making ability thus finding offense a natural thing. Alcohol is one kind of drug known to have an impact on judgment and has been related to various criminal activities. This assignment discusses the association of alcohol abuse and homicide cases.

Robert Nash Parker argues that majority of the homicide cases are caused by the interpersonal hostility that is created by the association with the people who are close to the victims. He categorizes homicide crime into either expressive or instrumental offense. The most significant point of interest is to get a grasp of knowledge on the differences that occur between these two homicides cases (Schmalleger, 2014).

The association between the victim and offender plays a vital role in influencing the homicide cases. Usually, homicide is fuelled by common life issues such as quarrel and misunderstanding. For example, disagreements in a relationship often trigger most people to try and abuse drugs especially alcohol. The use of alcohol tends to impair judgment, and in this situation, these people make an irrational sense (Schmalleger, 2014). Homicide may come on the list of the decisions made at this point. In simple terms, it is argued that stress in the relationship may lead to alcohol abuse and ultimately homicide due to the inability to make proper decisions.

The argument put forth by Robert Nash explains the social role of alcohol in influencing involvement in the homicide. While alcohol causes impaired rationality, the nature of the social situation would determine the participation in homicide. Stressing situations couple with the abuse or use of alcohol are extremely dangerous as they may lead to a condition known as selective disinhibition which is the leading cause of homicide. A better understanding of homicide begins with an analysis of the social conditions and its relationship to abuse of drugs or alcohol. Research has indicated that alcohol use can be used to predict primary homicide. People who are known to each tend to be more violent after alcohol use when they have specific relationship issues. Strangers, on the other hand, tend to keep away from engaging each other violently. This describes how selective disinhibition occurs and also gives an understanding of the reasons why homicide cases are prone among close acquaintances (Schmalleger, 2014).

Homicide cases have been fueled by either gender. However, the male form the most significant percentage. The difference between the two sexes is the fact that male serial killers mainly have strangers as their victims of choice while females have known people. It is possible to conclude that women are often in some revenge mission. The males may in most cases be under the influence of drugs. However, even the females may need some drugs to gather the courage of committing homicide. Psychologically, it is believed that killing is not always easy and use of drugs help to ease the act of murder (Schmalleger, 2014).

In conclusion, the abuse of drugs and specifical alcohol has a significant influence on the act of homicide among the general population. An investigation of the cases of killings should focus mainly on the social situation of the criminal and any evidence of the use of drugs. Moreover, while establishing this relationship, the association between the offender and the victim should also be used to give an all-around situation analysis of the homicide case.
