I agree with the answers to the research questions. There is a significant prevalence of CS, CF, and burnout among emergency nurses which is associated with demographic factors such as gender and age, and work-related factors such as length of shifts and education levels. The use of ProQOL version 5 and demographic questionnaire in the survey enhanced the objectivity of the research, and the scales show the relation between the demographics, work-related factors, and three parameters which include compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction, and burnout (Hunsaker et al., 2015). A shift length of 8 hours and an experience of at least a year together with adequate nursing education provide grounds for increased degrees of compassion satisfaction and low if not average levels of fatigue and burnout.

Educational levels, age, years of experience and length of shifts significant influencers of CF, CS, and burnout among emergency nurses. According to Hunsaker et al. (2015), the level of influence is reliant on nurse level of training, the length of the shifts, age and years of experience. Ideally, the more trained nurses and those with more experience are bound to exhibit greater compassion satisfaction. Burnout and compassion fatigue are influenced by nurses’ age and length of shifts. The longer the shifts, the more likely for nurses are to burn out. Younger and less experienced nurses are vulnerable to fatigue because of challenges they face in adjusting to the daily routines (Hunsaker et al., 2015). More experienced nurses and older ones have lower burnout levels because they are more accustomed to the routines and have adapted.

In conclusion, the sample size for the research was small since only 278 responses were valid for users in the study. Larger sample size would aid in deriving more accurate prevalence levels. However, in the research emergency nurses exhibit lower levels of burnout and fatigue and high levels of compassion satisfaction. Increasing awareness through developing strategies to support and address fatigue and burnout would improve satisfaction. All in all, it is clear that demographics and work-related factors influence compassion satisfaction, fatigue, and burnout among emergency nurses.
