What are the consequences of high drinking and statistics about drinking on campus?

Indeed high consumption of alcohol has a negative effect not only on the campus going individuals but the general human population. Students engaging in excessive drinking sometimes may fail to think about the repercussion of the actions besides ruining the school reputation ( Tomar, 2019) . What they need to know is that alcohol has detrimental effects on them as well as individuals. Also, parents feel the pinch as they have to undergo the detoxification process with their children; in the worst case scenario when students die from alcohol-related cases, parents carry the most burden. The alcohol statistics on campus is quite dismaying; once the student is under the influence of alcohol, accidents, assault, rape or even death may occur. In line with the yearly national survey death as a result of excessive drinking approximate to 1825 alcohol associated unintended injuries which include car accident. Also, alcohol-related assault is in the higher end of 696,000 college students and sexual assault with the figures of 97, 000 which in turn may lead to deaths ( National Institutes of Health, n.d.)

Did the alcohol issues surprise you?

Undeniably, the alcohol issues surprised me as to why these young souls with a bright, vibrant future resort into alcohol drinking behavior ( National Institutes of Health, n.d.) . Shockingly most of the college students consume alcohol for fun, and at this point, peer influence is a huge trigger for this gross misconduct.

What are some of the examples of programs/strategies that have tried on campuses?

In cutting down the drinking problem on campus, there are a variety of programs/strategies in place for instance program that targets individual students which mostly target the vulnerable student like the freshman students, athlete, mandated students, Greek system students ( National Institutes of Health, n.d.) . Also, there is a program targeting the campus and its environs which is meant to reduce the availability of substance abuse in the college surrounding.

What else needs to be done?

From the strategies above, there is still something extra to be done, like for instance engaging the parents in every plan as well as making them to be on the forefront of every decision making and enacting policy to deter alcohol abuse ( Tomar, 2019) . Likewise de-campaigning the use of the drug and substance abuse from the first year the students is initiated in a particular institution and in every level of the institution.
