I would say that for the most part, the video is fair and accurate in its depiction of the two genders. This is because I have observed males and females behaving as portrayed in the video. For example, I understand that men tend to spend less time preparing for dates while women need more time for such tasks as shopping. Furthermore, I have observed that women leave for the washroom in groups. While I believe that the video is accurate, I think that there are some depictions that are insulting and inaccurate. For example, the video presents men as lazy alcoholics who do not help with house chores. Whereas this depiction is true for many men, I think that most men work hard and help with household chores. The video is clearly intended to highlight stereotypes and should not be regarded as an accurate representation of males and females. Watching the video prompted me to reflect on the sources of gender stereotypes. I think that the stereotypes are social constructed instead of being ingrained in our nature. For example, I doubt that women are born with an insatiable need to shop for hours on end while men naturally gravitate towards watching football with a bottle of alcohol in hand. I would say that the gender stereotypes cause more harm to men than women. For example, the women are stereotyped as complicated, unbalanced and vain. On the other hand, the stereotypes present men as simpler and powerful. I find that women face a more daunting challenge when they attempt to challenge stereotypes. In general, society tends to treat women more harshly. Therefore, a woman who tries to challenge stereotypes is likely to be met with rebuke and condemnation. I would not be surprised if a woman is asked to return to the kitchen when she insists on gaining an education and independence.

I support your position that the video is both incorrect and accurate in its portrayal of the two genders. However, I must fault you for wondering why the creators of the video compared how men and women travel. I think that this comparison is intended to show that when they attempt to travel, women are usually held down by familial obligations. For example, a woman is expected to care for her children and tend to the home. These responsibilities would make it difficult for her to travel without hindrances. On the other hand, since society is more forgiving and accommodating of men, they are able to travel without many restrictions. I share your view that gender stereotypes are socially constructed. Our society challenges boys to behave in a particular manner and reminds girls that certain behaviors are unacceptable. I think that it would be interesting to see how an individual develops without societal influences. Would boys gravitate towards households chores while girls cheer their football teams on? In your response, you state that you think that stereotypes are harmful to both genders. While I agree that the stereotypes are dangerous, I find that women bear the brunt. I think that it is easier for a man to defy society and pursue endeavors that are not considered masculine. For example, I know many men whose families fully support their pursuit of cooking and other pursuits that are traditionally reserved for women. I am not stating that the stereotypes do not affect women adversely. The point that I wish to make is that the challenge that women face is far more daunting. I also agree that it is indeed possible for men and women to defy stereotypes. I think that we should have the courage to pursue what our hearts desire instead of bowing to the demands of society.
