Television is a constant presence in the lives of most US citizens. It commands people’s attention for several hours each day. Television influences the viewer’s attitudes and beliefs (Anjum, 2013). It also competes with other sources of human interaction in helping the individual, especially the young generation, develops values and also form values about the world that surrounds them. Commercial television had a significant impact on American culture since the 1950s. It has helped spread the American culture around the world (Anjum, 2013). Television also influences the way an individual thinks about matters regarding social issues such as race, gender, and class. It also plays a significant role in the political process, as it shapes the US national political campaigns.
Impact of the Rise of Suburbs in the United States
The suburbs grew with time and with innovations. This was especially true during the 1950s; a time referred to as the “baby boom” and “suburban boom” in America (History.com Editors, 2018). With this booms, US citizens wanted to raise their children in nice open homes and suburbia was the perfect place to do this after WWII houses in the suburbs were made cheaper with the passing of the G.I. Bill (History.com Editors, 2018). This led to the growth of the suburbs, and this has both negative impacts and positive impacts in the United States. The rise of the suburbs had a negative impact on the environment. To get to work, the residents living within the suburbs had to use cars to make long commutes since they had no other choice. This contributed to air pollution. The rise of the suburbs also had a socioeconomic impact as well. It brought beneficial changes involving the economy and social progress. US citizens could afford cheap houses to raise their children.
