Work, religion, and leisure play an important role in human life. Besides, there is a close relationship between work, religion, and leisure as they affect or influence one another. Many studies and articles have been used to explore and explain the relationship between the three variables. Besides, understanding the concepts of work, religion, and leisure plays a critical role in recreational management. Thus, it is essential to review and analyze sources that explain how work, religion, and leisure relate.
The first source, Spirituality, and leisure: An auto-ethnographic life-history study, by Bai et al . (2011), mainly focuses on the relationship between religion and leisure. According to the authors of the article, spirituality has a significant influence on leisure activities a person participates on, especially in the workplace. Some religions promote leisure while others inhibit recreational activities. Generally, findings of the study by Bai et al . (2011) revealed that spirituality influence people's leisure participation at different stages of their lives, either positively or negatively. Religion affects leisure through factors such as tight schedules or time constraints and eliciting fear or guilt. On the other hand, religion promotes leisure by expanding friendship network. Therefore, I chose the source because it provides in-depth information about the relationship between religion and leisure. Besides, I selected the sources because it provides evidence-based information to explain how specific religions affect leisure. Hence, the main theme of the sources is the relationship between religion and leisure.

The source helps me understand religion and leisure. It explores how religion influences the leisure activities of individuals or a group of people in society. I am now able to understand that religious beliefs and practices have a significant influence on leisure activities. However, the source does not help me in understanding how work relates to religion or leisure or both. Besides, the source has some strengths and weaknesses. One of the major strength of the source is that its information is based on scientific study. Bai et al . (2011) conducted research to determine the relationship between religion and leisure. The second strength of the source is its ability to explain the relationship between religion and leisure comprehensively. It describes how specific religions such as Catholic and Buddhism affect leisure activities of their respective followers. Nevertheless, the major weakness of the source is that it does not have a detailed literature review. A comprehensive literature review is essential because it helps in understanding the background of the problem or issue, mainly based on scientific evidence or information.
Also, the source contributes to recreational management, primarily through research and management. Findings of the source can be used to organize and plan for recreational activities in organizations or workplace. Recreational managers can also use the source to organize leisure activities that meet the needs and interest of people from different religious organizations.
Leisure and religious activity participation and mental health: A gender analysis of older adults in Nepal by Gautam, Saito, and Kai (2007) is also crucial in understanding leisure, religion, and work. Specifically, I chose the source because it explains how leisure and religion affect work by influencing human health conditions, primarily mental health. Based on the findings of the study by Gautam, Saito & Kai (2007), leisure and religious activities affect human mental health and general life satisfaction. Human health plays an important role in determining work productivity, which is an indication that leisure and religion affect work. The main theme of the source, therefore, is the effect of religion and leisure on human health and how they can affect productivity.
The source helps me in understanding work, religion, and leisure. Importantly, it enhances my understanding of how leisure and religion affect human health, which is essential in human productivity. Nonetheless, unlike the source by Bai et al . (2011), it does not clearly explain the relationship between religion and leisure. The major strength of the source is that is scientific research, which has evidence-based information. Evidence-based information is reliable and valid, and it can help in making informed decision or conclusion. The source also has a weakness because it mainly focuses on the influence of religion and leisure on mental health. This is a weakness because the source does not directly state the relationship between leisure, religion, and work. The source contributes to recreation management in different ways. Specifically, it emphasizes the importance of leisure and religion on human health. Recreation managers in various organizations, therefore, can use the source to understand the importance of leisure and religion on the health and productivity of their employees or workforce.
The third source is an article titled “ The cross-cultural study on work values: Focus on religion, leisure time, and school education” by Noriko Tanaka, and published in 2011. I chose the article because it explains how religion and leisure affect work values. According to the findings of the study, Muslims’ strong family ties influence their influence both their leisure behaviors and work values. At the same time, the source uses the example of Islam to explain how religion influences leisure time. Muslims spend a lot of their free time in mosques, and they may not have sufficient leisure time. The main theme of the source is the effects of religion and leisure on work values.
The source helps me in understandings the relationship between work, religion, and leisure. It helps me understand how Islam religion affects leisure activities, which in turn influence work values. Religion influences the work culture of people. The major strength of the source is its ability to focus on one religion, which is Islam to explain how it affects work and leisure. As a result, the reader can clearly understand the influence or effects of religion on leisure and work, particularly based on Islam perspective. Besides, it is a scientific research article, which means that it has reliable information. Nevertheless, the source has a weakness because it only focuses on work values and not other work-related elements such as productivity and satisfaction. Besides, the source contributes to recreational management by providing useful information about leisure, religion, and work. The source is essential to recreational managers and experts who would like to explore the relationship between work, religion, and leisure.
The source by Kim and Yang (2016), titled Relation research on job demand-control-support, work- leisure conflict, quality of life in tourism employees is also important in understanding the relationship between work and leisure. I chose the article because, unlike the first three sources, Kim & Yang (2016) explore the work-leisure conflict. Although leisure is important, workers face a lot of work-leisure conflict dilemma, especially when leisure is no appropriately distributed. Spending a lot of time at work reduces leisure, which may result in stress and poor health. One of the major themes of the source, therefore, is work leisure conflict, which is a challenge for many employees and organizations.
The source majorly helps me in understanding the relationship between work and leisure. I can learn that inappropriate balance between work and leisure can lead to work-leisure conflict. However, the source does not help me in understanding the concept of religion. I believe that the main strength of the source is its ability to bring a new perspective on the relationship between work and leisure. Although the previous sources explored the same topic, they do not cover the conflict between the two variables. However, the article does not comprehensively explain the relationship between work and leisure. It only focuses on work-leisure conflict. Besides, the source the source contributes to recreational management by helping in addressing the possible conflict between work and leisure. Recreational managers need to strike a balance between work and leisure to eliminate or reduce conflict.
At the same time, The importance of leisure activities in the relationship between physical health and well-being in a life span sample by Paggi, Jopp, and Hertzog (2016) helps in exploring the concept of leisure, especially in relations to human health and wellbeing. I chose the source because I believe it can assist in understanding the importance of leisure activities. Even though people take leisure for granted, it plays a critical role in human health. The source primarily focuses on the relationship between recreation and human health, which also directly relates to work.
Therefore, even though the source does not help me in understanding work and religion, it assists in gaining knowledge of leisure. It helps me to appreciate the importance of leisure. The main strength of the source is its ability to narrow on the relationship between leisure and human health. Narrowing on a specific topic helps in an in-depth discussion on the concept, which boots understanding. At the same time, the source does not explore the relationship between leisure and other variables like work and religion, which I consider as one of its weaknesses. Also, the source contributes to recreational management through research. Scholars and recreational managers can use the source to understand the importance of leisure, especially to human health and wellbeing.
In conclusion, many studies have been done to explore the concepts of work, religion, and leisure. Findings from the sources reveal that there is a close relationship between the variables. Leisure and religion have a significant influence on work. At the same time, leisure contributes a lot to human health. Work, religion, and leisure, therefore, affect one another.
