My goal is to become an expert nurse. I aim at gaining experience and knowledge in the field of nursing. My objectives include putting in more hours into practice, implementing evidence-based approaches and advancing my education. The theory that will guide me in achieving this goal is the Benner’s Novice to Expert theory. The theory outlines five stages of competency development that each nurse must go through (Thomas & Kellgren, 2017). In building the right experience I will always stop and converse with my patients, listen to them and assist them to adjust to their situation. Uhrenfeldt et al. (2018) noted that creating a positive relationship with patients offers an opportunity for a nurse to learn from patient experience and outcomes. Developing competency in the teaching-nursing domain will be essential in my path to becoming an educator. Rosenau et al. (2015) advise that for one to become a proficient nurse educator, one must be willing to engage interns, collaborate with clinical mentors, as well as educate families and patients to cope with their situation. The authors further note that timing, motivating change, helping with lifestyle alteration and negotiating agreements on care plans are skills in the teaching-function domain.
To develop competency in the monitoring and ensuring the quality of healthcare practices, I will be concerned with maintaining safety, engaging in continuous quality improvement, collaborating and consulting with physicians as well as gaining usability in healthcare technology (Church, 2016). In a bid to be an expert I must stick to my professional role. To achieve this, I will observe professional ethic, maintain a clear clinical judgment and adhere to evidence-based practices. In my daily practice, I will seek to develop my ability to meet demand with resources as well as assessing and managing care during emergencies so as to develop competency in cultural-sensitive care (Hasandoost et al., 2017). Church (2016) noted that developing experience in an ongoing assessment and anticipation of outcome helps one develop competency in the management of patients. Achieving this objective will be important to my journey to becoming an expert.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
