The elderly people in our society need support and care since they cannot do much for themselves. Being responsible for the care of the aging loved one can be challenging to an individual. Families who provide care for aging loved ones need time and finances to care for them. However, the families that lack finances to care for their aging loved one can be very challenging on them. The high cost involved in placing an aging loved one in the elderly establishments is something many families do not afford. Additionally, the children may feel the roles have changed from being cared for by the parent to being a caregiver to the parent, which affects them emotionally. Moreover, in cases where the aging loved one has lost physical ability, there is a lot of heavy lifting involved, which can affect the family member physically (CBS News, 2014). Therefore, caring for the aging loved one can affect the family members emotionally, physically, and financially.
In the past, the older people could be cared for their families at home. However, this has changed significant over time due to the busy society, which prompts the elderly to be taken to care homes to receive long-term care. Most people in our society are working therefore, finding time to care for the aging loved ones becomes a challenge. That is why the number of care homes for the elderly has increased over the recent years. The aging loved ones are not receiving adequate care and attention from family members as in the past years.

Hi Carl, I find it interesting how you have addressed the topic. You have offered important information that impact significantly on our caregiving tasks. I cannot believe that taking care of the elderly is such an expensive affair. Spending up to $325000 on retirement benefits and wages is a lot of money.

Hi Nina, I find it interesting how you have used your personal story to explain the importance of taking care of the aging loved ones. It is nice to know that taking care of the aging loved ones improves their emotional wellbeing. I think that taking care of the aged ones also gives them some extension in life while assuring them that they belong and are still important people in the society.
