Some of the things I learned are that the primary role of a community nurse is to offer treatment services to patients. However, their roles are not limited to patients alone. Community health nurses offer education on disease prevention, health maintenance and general health services to members if a community (Distelhorst & Wyss 2013). Besides, they have diverse roles, in that one can be a clinician, a manager, a specialist, researcher, health educator and an adviser. Community health nurses also, distribute health-related items like pregnancy test kit and condoms mainly to prevent diseases. Community health nurses play a significant role in providing quality end life care for ill clients and their families. For instance, as a community health nurse, provision of end life care in an excellent manner requires knowledge that is quite exceptional. One has to be accommodative of the family’s feelings and the patient’s wellbeing at the same time. Community health nurses have to be advisers to their patients and the families on the best treatment methods (Harkness & DeMarco 2012). Also, they have to provide emotional support to patients and their family members. Other roles include administering drugs, physical assessment and health administration services to the patients.

When it comes to intervention for the dying, some of the appropriate ones include, drug administration for pain management, establish trust, collaboration with physicians and many others based on the patient (Pullis 2013). When taking care of old patients, especially those in critical conditions, community health nurses have to be thorough in the diagnosis and care. Family’s emotions should be considered; for instance, pain sounds from a patient may be reasonable to a patient and the nurse but frighten the family. Faith community nurses act as health advisors, educators on health issued and trainer for community volunteers. However, they are not allowed to serve patients at church or home; instead, they offer referrals for services in the community.
