Nurses play a crucial role in the delivery of quality healthcare considering that they spend a significant amount of time interacting with patients. In this role, they became the link between the physicians, patients, and the patients’ families in monitoring the progress of the patients. Nurses are responsible for monitoring and documenting the vital signs of their patients, which include pulse, temperature, respiration, and blood pressure. With this being the cases nurses need to be familiar with these vital signs to pass the check off evaluation.

The evaluation of the vital signs checks off establishes if a medical assistant is competent enough. One needs to understand the procedures for assessing and documenting vitals as well as the key terms associated with the pulse, blood pressure, respiration, and temperature. A student needs to know how to interact with an actual patient and assess the vitals considering that the evaluation tests on this aspect (Proctor et al., 2020). Finally, one needs to be an effective time manager since all the evaluations are timed and one has to finish within the timelines.

The most Challenging Vital Sign Measurement 

Assessing a patient’s blood pressure will be more challenging and complicated as compared to other vitals. A medical assistant will be required to master different terms and procedures to ensure the capturing of the right blood pressure. The placement of the stethoscope on a patient brachial artery and the inflation of the cuff to determine palpitation is too demanding. Sapra, Malik, and Bhadhari (2020) note that one may not get the results until the patient is calm or has been inactive for five minutes or has a full bladder. A medical assistant will need to be patient and study more to understand how to get accurate readings to enhance better outcomes.

Lessons from the P.R.I.C.E Model of Success 

The P.R.I.C.E model of success has helped to embrace characteristics that will make me a better health provider capable of reaching my full potential. In particular, I have learned the value of integrity and respect when taking the vital signs of the patients. I will endeavor to ensure that I measure and record the vital signs, as they are to promote the patients' wellbeing. As a medical assistant, I will be dealing with patients from different age groups, racial affiliations, gender, and socio-economic classes thus the need to treat them with dignity and respect.

The most important lesson from this week's lesson is the need to be conversant with the terms and concepts associated with the measurement of vital signs. Medical assistants should understand all these measurements and procedures to improve the outcomes of the patients in their care.
