Equipping learners with effective and practical communication skills is the primary purpose of this class. Through the class, we have been introduced to insights and strategies that define effective communicators. Personally, the class has allowed me to understand that effective communication demands discipline and strategy. If one wishes to convey messages in a clear fashion, they need to adopt established communication approaches. Going forward, I intend to adopt some of the insights from the class into my personal communication style.
Ensuring that our communication serves meaningful purposes is one of the lessons that have been presented through this class. The readings made it clear that to become an effective communicator, one needs to spell out the goals that they wish to achieve through their communication (“Introduction”, n.d). In my discussions with others, I will endeavor to ensure that my communication style is geared toward the attainment of certain objectives. Establishing rapport by expressing gratitude and nurturing relationships is another insight that has been shared through this class (“Introduction”, n.d. Thanks to the class, I understand that communication should not be transactional. Instead, it should be built on deep and warm friendships. I will strive to ensure that my communication accounts for the nature of my relationship with my audience. This class has also explored the importance of matching one’s message with the appropriate medium (“Guide to Managerial”, n.d). Individuals are advised to ensure that the media that they select allow for the accurate and faithful communication of their message. I have observed that I tend to select inappropriate media for my messages. I credit this class with having challenged me to align my messages with the media that I have available. In future conversations, I intend to use different media to communicate with different audiences. Another lesson that this class has highlighted is the need to consider culture when developing a communication style. Effective communicators display cultural sensitivity. In my effort to ensure that my messages resonate with my audience, I will endeavor to be respectful and mindful of the cultural orientation of my audience.
