In the Ted Talk on ‘growth mindset,’ Carol Dweck notes that we all possess both a fixed and growth mindset. She says that having the ability to identify situations that make someone feel worried, anxious, and defensive on his or her abilities, can be a beneficial first step to finding out which one triggers both growth and fixed mindset. The application of the growth mindset concept as elucidated by Carol Dweck spans almost all the career fields. Therefore, as a prospective supply chain manager, knowledge of growth mindset comes in handy. That is, pursuing a career in supply chain management entails coordinating supply chain activities right from the raw materials required all the way to ensuring that a customer is satisfied. This means that it is the role of a supply chain manager to ensure the chain’s competitive advantage is maintained as well as the ultimate customer enjoys the benefits. But, to be able to do so, a supply chain manager needs to possess a growth mindset; that which is flexible and ready to engage new ways of handling issues. 

According to Dweck (2014), a growth mindset keeps someone yearning to try and learn new things. For instance, individuals with a growth mindset take criticism and learn from it. They want to progress, flourish and grow because they don’t fear challenges. They soldier on and don’t mind putting an extra effort since they are aware that to be successful one should meet the challenges head-on. All these virtues are necessary for the supply chain management career. A supply chain manager needs to be able to embrace challenges so that he or she can be able to improve service delivery. Additionally, if as a supply chain manager, one avoids challenges and threats, then this will impair services delivery. On the other hand, meeting the issues head-on will encourage creativity and improved way of doing things. Moreover, positively embracing challenges assures of customer loyalty and confidence in the manager’s professionalism.

Therefore, to eliminate the fixed mindset, one should be ready to take the criticism and work towards making improvements in their every aspect of life (Dweck, 2014). A supply chain manager should try to keep an open mind about new concepts, ideas, and suggestions so that they can assist to elevate them from their comfort zone. This is very helpful since it assists erase what individuals believe that it is either you are good at something or not rather than believing that anybody can be good at anything because someone’s capabilities entirely depend on his or her actions. 

Overall, a growth mindset is advantageous to a supply chain manager since it assists to eliminate the fixed mindset which makes someone respond to setbacks negatively by quitting and rather advocate for employment of new strategies to handle the issue at hand.
