I concur with your approach of first educating the community leaders about the importance of the programs and how they will help reduce gang violence. Another approach would be the provision of opportunities to the youths and those at high risk of being in gang groups (Howell, 2010). Training the youths, educating them, and facilitating their access to employment opportunities will reduce gang violence in the community. An idle mind is the devil's workshop is a saying that holds for the reason the youths get involved in gang violence. If they have access to sources of work and income or even community service activities, they are less likely to get involved in gang activities. Social intervention and outreach would also come in handy when addressing gang violence. Street outreach, faith-based social services, and using outreach workers to engage the youths is critical in minimizing gang violence (Howell, 2019). Proverbs 13:14 says, "The teachings of the wise are a fountain of life; they will help you escape when your life is in danger." When the youths heed to the teachings of their leaders and role models in society, then they will make better life decisions and avoid being in trouble. I agree with your discussion on methods used to address gang violence like suppression, prevention, and intervention. I am also in agreement about the possible limitations expected in the given endeavors. Community mobilization of the youths, residents, community groups, agencies, and civic leaders to create new opportunities, strengthen, plan and coordinate the existing organizations for youths at risk of gang involvement is an essential approach in suppressing gang violence (Berdychevsky, Stodolska, & Shinew, 2019). Changing and developing the existing policies to better address the gang violence by using a consistent problem-solving approach and policing that is problem-oriented (Wormith, Craig, & Hogue, 2020). Implementing policies and programs that have effective results by using the available resources. If the community wants to see different results, then change is key. Proverbs 13:24 says if you don't punish your children, you don't love them. If you do love them, you will correct them." Parent, the police and local leaders ought to collaborate and work together in holding lawbreakers responsible for their actions and punishing them for serving as an example to others in the community. This method is an act of love for the children and the youths.
