Evaluating whether your EBP project made a difference in practice

It is important to assess whether evidence-based practice (EBP) project has brought desired changes upon the implementation of a practice change. From the mental health capstone, evaluating the effectiveness of the EBP practice will involve the assessment of patient-related outcomes as regards their psychosocial symptoms like changes depression and anxiety. The nurse practitioner should plan on which outcomes to measure, how to measure them, and eventually disseminate them to the scientific community. Therefore, evaluating the change will involve an evaluation plan, ongoing quality improvement, and ethical considerations.

The evaluation plan encompasses posting questions in discussion forums to inquire what happened following the implementation of the change. This will indicate of all the outcomes, barriers, and successes of the project upon its implementation. During the evaluation, the team members will be questioned to provide answers regarding any reason behind the resultant patient outcomes (Harris, et al., 2015). Comparisons can then be made with the EBP’s progress and its ultimate success. For example, mapping current practice against the previously highlighted guidelines in the Best Practice Guide that provided baseline data to the scientific organization and board members will ensure effective evaluation. The team leaders note the reasons and make professional judgments to strengthen areas of weaknesses within the practice change process. Consequently, the appraisal process will help in identifying patient outcome aspects involving mortality rates, the safety of care, readmissions, timeliness, the effectiveness of care and patient experience (Harris, et al., 2015). Therefore, the professional shall have identified quality improvement in nursing practices following the implementation of the practice change as will be reflected in the efficient use of medical imaging machines to scan mental health patients. The results of the change will finally be disseminated to the nursing fraternity and society as a quality assurance activity.
