The Health Information Technology legislation was established in 2004 by the Office of the National Coordinator. The Hitech legislation was drafted with the sole purpose of offering ONC the mandatory of managing them and putting up standards that will be incorporated into the health sector. However, the development of this Hitech legislation had significant impacts on the health sector. The implications of the Hitech legislation attracted both positive and negative effects on the healthcare systems.

The cost of maintenance of the EHR systems is usually relatively high. The EHR systems are traditionally integrated with both systems hardware and software to ensure that the EHR systems achieve their set function (Jones, Rudin, Perry, and Shekelle, 2014). The hardware tends to require to replace when the hardware breakdown and the replacements require cash. Furthermore, the software that has been integrated into the EHR systems will frequently need upgrading. Empirical studies that have been conducted indicate that annual average costs that the healthcare facilities use on a yearly basis to manage the EHR systems are $8412.Furthermore, additional support costs are usually incurred by the organization in maintaining the HER systems.

HITECH legislation has played a significant role in ensuring that the health facility increases the level of efficacy in the health institution (Thurston, 2014). Integration of EHR systems in the health institutions will reduce medical errors that tend to occur due to the use of manual operations. Furthermore, the new EHR system will play a significant role in the duties that tend to support the functions of medical practitioners (Thurston, 2014). The contemporary technological devices will increase the quality of health services being rendered to the patients.

Overdependence of EHR technology by the healthcare systems will significantly cause adverse impacts to the operations of the hospital. The organizational structure of the healthcare institution will be forced to transform to incorporate the contemporary technologies being implemented in the management (Furukawa, King, and Patel, 2015). Medical errors and negative emotions might arise in the healthcare institution thus leading to a compromise in the quality of health services being rendered to patients.
