I think that I will use the e-portfolio that I developed as a career tool that allows me to set goals. Professional development requires a student to set tools that she or he can use to assess her or his progress. Professional development is a process that allows one to build on their experiences through reflection and assessment. As such, I will use this tool to document my experience as well as the knowledge that I have gained during the course (Yastibas & Yastibas, 2014). For instance, through this tool, I will be able to understand what I need to improve and gain more insights into my nursing career. Professional development as well as engagement entails a series of learning experiences and goal setting. Upon the completion of goal setting, one requires motivational factors like personal interest in a topic of study (Menzik, n.d). Therefore, pursuit of new knowledge is an integral part of attaining professional success in the nursing field.
Every nurse must continue learning so that she or he can gain more skills and knowledge in their practice and handling patients. Nurses need to attain higher levels of education and training by going for more education model which promotes seamless progression in academic and nursing knowledge. As such, in the course of studies, my conceptualization of a nurse as well knowledge has improved tremendously (Menzik, n.d). I have evolved as a nurse through acquisition of new knowledge and practice interventions. I believe that I have experienced many unexpected gains like knowing the importance of collaboration between nurses and physicians. While I may not have achieved all that I hoped for, the course allowed me to have a better understanding of working as a team and attaining favorable outcomes.
