Identification of the Issue
Many Americans today, despite being employed or dependent on an employed person lack access to basic healthcare insurance. The issue has been discussed largely in the recent past with politicians, policymakers, and analysts issuing opinions as to how access to healthcare can be improved. Despite this opinions, less has been achieved and many American citizens remain barred from basic health insurance. Lack of access to basic health insurance has many detrimental effects to the economic and social conditions of the Americans and such a condition implies that authorities and stakeholders should be at e forefront in finding a workable solution.
Changes undergone by the Issue
The issue of health insurance has undergone several changes since I first envisioned and started thinking about it. Since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, for example, many positive changes have been made to ensure that all American citizens have access to basic healthcare at an affordable rate. However, more negative changes have emerged as the private insurance companies attempt to compete the statutorily mandated cover. For example, there are concerns that the delivery system and insurance infrastructure has been modified in way that fails to meet the basic needs of middle income Americans (Woolf, 2013). One of the overarching concerns is that people with preexisting diseases may lose their cover if they change jobs (Barr, 2016).

Factors that led to Current Perspective and Direction
To solve the current issue, policymakers and the public need to flag healthcare insurance as matter of national interest and lobby to make it affordable. However, this has not been done as the data describing and informing this issue is often incomplete, scattered, understudied, and in many instances, outdated. Therefore, the only solution is to develop a systematic method of investigating these barriers and formulating ways which can reverse them and make the healthcare insurance accessible to all Americans (Kronenfeld, 2012).
