The arrest was conducted lawfully. Police are allowed by law to arrest a suspect if they believe he has committed a crime. The arrest can happen without even a warrant. Police have the authority to make arrest if they believe a probable cause that the suspect committed a crime. In the case of William Russell, the arrest is lawful owing to the presence of incriminating evidence against him (Casenotes, 2019). Indeed, officers can justify the arrest by producing the tangible evidence against him. Failure to arrest him would mean destroying evidence vital to the prosecution. Officers do not make arrests for simply believing one is a criminal. The search was conducted lawfully. It was reasonable. The search was lawful, as it was not forcefully done. The suspect was equally cooperative. Whenever a lawful custodial arrest is made, the arresting officer is lawfully allowed to search the suspect (Casenotes, 2019). In some cases, the search is done because the suspect might be having a weapon that he might use against the officer. The search is lawful and extends to containers, luggage, and closets within the suspect’s immediate control. Based on the video, the interrogation is lawful. The detective does not apply any coercive or inhumane methods to make William Russel confess to his crimes. While he was invited to the police station for questioning, he did not have an idea he was a suspect (The Mob Reporter, 2014). His neighbor was the prime suspect, so when he agreed to the interrogation, he was under the impression that the purpose of the exercise was to answer questions about his neighbor. In the course of the interrogation, he is presented with evidence that holds him personally accountable. In addition, the interrogation remains within the boundaries of the suspect’s constitutional rights.
