The February 4th, 2019 Super Bowl Annual Championship Game was one full of color, glamour, and energy. The same energy was evident in the Super Bowl ads. One after the other, the advertisements managed to capture and captivated the attention of the audience. One ad that stood out quite conspicuously was the "Handmaid's Tale" by Hulu (Perna, 2019). The ad is more of a trailer for season 3 of the popular show being advertised as a pro woman's commercial. What stands out for the ad is the fact that it would pass out as an ad for a beauty product. The purpose of this ad, needless to say, is to market the show in an amazingly unique style.

In most cases, the Super Bowl Championship is an avenue to market automobiles, beauty products, and apparels. It can be argued that the ad generally targets the typical American citizen who is big into action-filled shows. Being a feminist show, the target audience can be narrowed down to the modern and sophisticated uptown American woman aged between 25 to 50 years (Perna, 2019). The ad chooses to focus on the power of feminity, both as a weakness and a source of strength. However, the ad could have used a slightly different approach, for instance, to show the impact feminism has positively on society. The ad focuses on feminist power to rule by causing destruction, rather than to build.

Nonetheless, it is an enticing commercial in the sense that it creates a sense of curiosity and builds anticipation for the premiere of the 3rd season of the show. It affects culture in the sense that it questions the typical threshold of masculinity and power. It projects the woman as a force to be reckoned with, challenging the belief of male superiority (Perna, 2019). The sociological perspective that would be acknowledged in this case is the conflict raised surrounding male dominance and female submission. The ad raises a whole new debate surrounding feminism.
