Approaches to Problem-Solving
According to Levi group dynamics, a descriptive approach is a problem-solving approach for teams that involves several stages of developing a solution during the performing stage. The team may either randomly devise a solution that is fit for the problem being experienced, vote for the best solution among many, create new ideas of approaching the issue, or have each team affiliate suggest a preferred solution to the problem (Levi, 2015). In a functional approach, several factors may improve the team’s ability to solve issues. They include having intelligent members who can critically think, the ability to manage both group’s tasks and relations, data aggregation and research on the problem, considering several options, focusing on the issue at hand, and ability to discuss even the minute opinions from the members.
The prescriptive problem-solving approach utilizes analytical techniques in developing with a solution. Hence, the first step involves the group recognizing a problem, defining, and analyzing the problem. Here, the group should ensure that it looks into the manifestations more than the etiology. After that, the team generates alternatives to the challenge and devises a solution. Then, the final step would be identifying the perfect solution for the problem from the generated file (Levi, 2015). To develop an ideal option, the needs of individual team members should balance out, the problem-solving approached employed should be efficient, and this process should be utilized to strengthen the team spirit.

Previously, my team was faced with leadership problems, which raised immense arguments and failure to complete group tasks. Since we had the final project at hand, we decided to split units among team members who would compile it later on. This approach led to low output since the input was from an individual perspective. It would have been better to utilize the functional approach to appoint a group leader without external influences by considering each individual’s opinion. This approach would have enabled us to understand the factors that affected the group’s performance and identify an impartial leader who would think through every team member’s opinion.
Characteristics of Creativity
Characteristics of creativity are dependent on personal and situational factors and products and processes involved. Individual creativity is influenced by domain and creativity-relevant skills and motivation to undertake the task, whereas it is inhibited by the extrinsic reward system, appraisal anxiety, and individual’s standards. Group creativity is enhanced by creative engagement, reasonable familiarity to the task, direct proficiencies, ranging individual outlooks, and varying styles of brainstorming. This process could be inhibited by the fact that a team produces fewer ideas, dynamism within the group, thought interference, and social hindrance (Levi, 2015). As a team leader, I would encourage both kinds of creativity by involving creative people within the group to facilitate team creativity and creating an enabling group climate to promote creativity during brainstorming. I would also motivate members to contribute to the discussion freely and allocate adequate time to implement refined ideas.
Team and Organizational Diversity
Both team and organizational diversity is essential in improving the decision-making process, influencing creativity, innovation, and facilitates the organizational learning process. Diversity is classified as either separation, variety, or disparity diversity with both positive and negative effects of the team. It can result in negative aspects such as minimized cohesion, increase in task conflicts, virulent opposition, social pulling out, and decreased communication by minority members.
Characteristics of Being Positive
According to Rogers, an effective teammate should portray optimism, practice positive gossip, compliment and encourage other members, and celebrate a teammate’s success in the task. While giving compliments, one should be candid, present facts, be concise, and work on consistency and balance (Rogers, 2017). The Bible encourages Christians to remain steadfast in faith and hope that God grants them their wishes and desires through prayers. Notably, the Christian concept of being positive has considerable alignment with Roger’s principles for the Bible discourages two-faced belief as godliness does not exist where evil manifests. Positivity means refraining from all forms of negativity and showing optimistic gestures.
