It is without a doubt that Vince Lombardi is one of the most successful coaches in the history of football. His success was founded on his exceptional leadership skills which made the impossible possible. Although he died more than 50 years ago, his leadership style remains to be the standard against which football coaches are measured with. Before he became a professional coach, Vince Lombardi was a football player in high school and later became a semi-pro player. He later became an assistant coach before becoming head coach of a small high school team. During that time, he worked with talented young players, and therefore he had a chance to develop the talent preparing him for success in the NFL. His success evident at the time because he was able to lead St. Cecilia Saints to a thirty-two-game unbeaten streak.

Lombardi made a big move to coach the defensive line of an Army team under Coach Red Blaik who was considered the best coach at the time. He then became an assistant coach in the team during which he learned a lot. The climax of his career was when he became the head coach of the Packers for nine seasons where the team dominated professional football by winning six division titles, five NFL championships, and also Super Bowls. He made a record of 98-30-4. Even after moving to Washington Redskins, he continued to make an impact as he led them to make the first winning record in fourteen years. That shows that he was a dynamic leader who would adapt to a new environment fast and achieve the desired goals. I am a dynamic person who can adapt to new situations and this helps me to propel a group whenever am given any leadership roles. He was able to command respect from the players regardless of their race or status.

Lombardi was a strategic leader who was excellent in problem management and could envision the future. As a strategic leader, Lombardi had technical competencies such as the ability to articulate national interests and objectives while working in a multicultural environment. He commented on national issues and therefore influencing national policies. As a leader, Lombardi was able to identify the abilities of players and develop them. He was successful as a coach because he maximized the potential of each player in his team. This is an excellent attribute of a leader that I emulate from Lombardi.
