Discuss why EBP is an essential component of the practice of a BSN-prepared RN.
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an essential component of the practice of Bachelor of Science in a nursing student. It is relevant since it involves thorough investigation when it comes to patients’ treatment. It incorporates integration of individual clinical expertise with the best external clinical evidence from systematic research (Buck & Labardee, 2017). The EBP is crucial because it can be applied to address various issues. For example, under this case, the EBP aims at researching and discussing the nursing shortages at my workplace.
If the nursing shortage is addressed as a matter of urgency, definitely, the patients will receive the best services. The application of EBP always ensures the most effective care with the aim of making improvements to the patients’ outcomes ( Buck & Labardee, 2017) . More so, the EBP promotes inquiry attitude in the health professional. The major questions that EBP tries to inquire include; why is something being done in that particular way? ( Bottari et al.,2015). For instance, in this project, one would require the reasons as to why there are nursing shortages at my workplace, and what would be needed to fix the deficit. The EBP ensure that the available evidence guides any undertaking in the nursing profession. More so, there is a wise utilization of resources, and that evidence is considered when any decisions are made. The nursing shortage in my organization creates evidence that more resources are required to employ more nurses for effective service delivery.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Identify two ways in which you will continue to integrate evidence into your practice and encourage it within your work environment.
I will continue integrating evidence into my practice and encourage it within my work environment through the following ways;
The first method would be to select a framework in which decisions would be made. I will use theoretical frameworks to guide the research process and integrate it into practice. The staff and management would identify the best model so that it can be implemented. The research model would aim to determine the effects of shortages in nurses. Also, it would try to find how the nurse shortage issue can be resolved so that patients can gain maximum benefits. Also, it will see the impacts of nursing shortages to the health institution. The results would then be analyzed and discussed by the management for further action.
The second way would involve asking clinical questions. The development of PICOT is essential when identifying a particular clinical problem like the nursing shortage ( Boswell & Cannon, 2018) . The P would include patient’s population or current issue which in this case is nurse shortage, I to include the number of nurses required to serve them adequately through intervention would address the alternative way of handling the patients with the current number of nurses, and O would involve seeking for the best outcome. The outcome here consists of the level of efficiency desired once the nurse shortage issue is resolved. Finally, T would involve timing, or duration required to fix the nurse deficit in the institution.
What obstacles could challenge this plan and what steps will you take to minimize your impacts?
The plan would experience various challenges which should be addressed to reduce the impact. One of the obstacles is lack of knowledge on how to integrate research findings into practice. Also, the negative attitude of the management towards the research would create a barrier. The administration can develop an adverse reaction and fail to implement my research findings which aim at addressing the shortage of nurses in my workplace. Misperception and negative reaction among the management about the results will have a significant impact on the implementation of the findings. The cost constraints can lead the administration to ignore the EBP findings or address it partially.
I will, therefore, take various steps to minimize the impacts. First, I will conduct meetings with staff, to senior manager and explain the current situation. More so, I will convince them on the negative impacts of the shortage of nurses in any organization. Next, I will address the relevance of increasing the number of nurses as well as cost-benefit analysis of the project. Finally, I will convince them on the minimum additional required nurses and the worst case scenario which would arise in case the current condition is not addressed. From that point, there is a high probability that even if the required deficit regarding required nurses is not entirely fixed, at least some nurses would be hired. Therefore, the impact would have been minimized.
