For many years, the issue concerning ethnic relations had become a significant topic of concern. This is because most dominant groups end up facing discrimination from another group of people. In this case, the ethnic relations among the dominant group end up varying since others view them differently. Most dominant groups end up sharing culture and race with other minority groups, but their cultural practices tend to differ. In the end, their ethnic relations may be interrupted since they share different ideas and practices.

Martin Marger shows that ethnic relations can result in prejudice and discrimination among the dominant groups. In other words, ethnic discrimination results in a negative attitude towards others due to their different cultural practices. Besides practices, behavior, attributes and personal status are factors that can also result in ethnic discrimination of the dominant groups. Marger also states that dominant groups may also face ethnic discrimination on different levels based on the community one comes from. For example, people may use words such as ‘nigger and wop’ to refer to people such as the Italians, Europeans, and African Americans. In this case, these terms and phrases end up contributing to ethnic discrimination among other group members.

At times, dominant groups may face issues relating to their religion. In the United States, the whites are the dominating group. In this case, the whites may be the dominating groups, but they may end up having a different religious background. Thus, one may end up facing discrimination based on their religion be it Christian, Islam or Jew. Ethnic discrimination not only affects the minority group, but it can also affect the dominant groups ( Healey, Stepnick & O'Brien, 2018) . Most dominant groups are discriminated on their social class because they are powerful and dominating in many countries.
