Most of the poor communities are marginalized and have high crime rates. One of the ways to solve the crimes in such poor communities is increased surveillance from government intelligence agencies. Though technology has improved security in the marked areas, some of the poor people are affected negatively due to racial profiling. Some of the surveillance patterns profile some poor communities based on race such as Latinos and African Americans who are associated with violence. Some of the poor people or affected races are not criminals but are treated by enforcement agencies as potential offenders. In this case, the police will have high arrests from the group even for small offenses leading to high incarceration rates in American prisons. For instances, police can have alerts of red zone districts where crimes are high. If the surveillance makes an individual get classified under potential offenders due to the race, then a slight reaction from such an individual when stopped by police for search and seizure can lead to innocent killing by the police. As a solution, surveillance systems should be based on particular traits leading to violence rather than the race of the person based on crime rates in poor regions or the highest populations occupying the place. In this regard, innocent arrests or killings from enforcement agencies will be significantly reduced.

Blog Post

At some point in my life, I have experienced a digital divide where my lack of internet access made me feel irrelevant and unfit in the current society. During that time, I lost my smartphone, and my parents could not allow me to use theirs. I was used to using social media not only to connect to friends but also keep track of other issues such as purchases, monitoring trends, accessing news, working, and accessing academic work. However, during the period I did not have a phone, I felt so disconnected from the contemporary environment. Digital inclusion can, therefore, increase the chances of an individual in contemporary society. The rationale for the necessity of digital inclusion is that most companies, businesses, and people use social media and mobile applications to pass information and products to consumers. Therefore, being connected through digital platforms increases the chances on one’s access to current news, trends, products, fashion, and friendships among others.
