A fluidized airbed is made of several tiny holes, which help to deliver air in it. These are the materials and steps used to make the fluidized airbed; one requires a couple of polyvinyl chlorides (PVC) pipes then arrange them in a horizontal way like a ladder. The most important thing to do is to drill the small tiny holes in each and every PVC pipe, the tiny holes should be two 1millimetre holes of 90 degrees apart from each other. Repeat the same exercise and space them 25milimetres apart.

Put all the pipes together by gluing them and make sure all the holes are facing down, so that the sand doesn’t get inside the PVC pipes. One can then seal the container with hot glue before filling the container with fine sand. The container filled with sand is powered. A small air compressor or a large nitrogen container can be used to fill in the air.

How fluidization occurs

Fluidization refers to a situation where there is enough upward flow of air so that the force of the air pushing the sand grain is equal to the gravity or weight of the sand grain. When that happens to the sand grain it sticks to one place and hovers around that particular place, because it has equilibrium. When there is equilibrium in an object it means the object is balanced at one particular place. In case more weight is added to one side it loses its balance and that’s what might happen if there is a high air concentration. As a result, things float on sand and others sink due to the buoyancy force, which is the function of the density of the fluid around and the volume of the object itself.

In conclusion, if your buoyancy force is more than the force of gravity it will make one float, if it’s less than the force of gravity can make one sink.
