Many nations experience a large stream of waste being deposited in landfills. A landfill is a facility within a municipality that is used for the disposition of solid waste. A close examination of the waste that is deposited in these landfills in the United States reveals that only 30% of it is subjected to recycling while 70% goes to landfills. It is significant to understand the type of material that is deposited in landfills before exploring the solution to reducing the increased disposal of this waste. Evidently, wastes from any municipality comprise everything from glass bottles, grass clippings, and food waste. The large stream of waste going to landfills results in the emission of methane gas, leachate, and loose waste as the most common challenges. Methane gas continues to accumulate from the increased stream of waste into landfills. The production of the gas is achievable through the anaerobic decomposition of the waste. The second cause of danger of increased stream of waste into the landfills is leachate, which is the thick liquid forming when garbage in the landfills decomposes. Apparently, the loose waste results in the attraction of all kinds of vermin that cause diseases. The loose material can be flown away by the breeze affecting the health of surrounding communities. Since the amount of waste that goes into landfills is excessive and causes a big health risk to populations, there is a need to explore the different ways that this problem can be managed. One of the solutions suggested herein is the selection of products that should not be sent to landfills. Landfilling is a noteworthy part of coordinated waste administration. Regardless of what advances are accessible, we would all be able to help by lessening the measure of waste that we create. This should be possible in an assortment of ways:

Use the Recycling Drop off Center

Compost yard and natural consumes

Use them as supplements for different plants

Mulch leaves and grass clippings

Buy reused paper items and items with less bundling

Buy strong items as opposed to expendable ones

Reuse containers and holders

Recycle oil.

It will be relied upon that the municipalities should use the energy in the landfill gas by dissipating the leachate produced. It will decrease the load on the wastewater treatment plant where leachate is presently treated. Additionally, methane gas can be used in the creation of power after being collected using current technology. The purified gas can be used in the generation of power. Close examination of the solutions presented herein, controlling the amount and the type of waste that goes into landfills is significant. In this case, using the Recycling Drop off Center because the choice of materials will be great for recyclables to be collected while those that can decompose would be released to the landfills. In the plan for achieving reduced waste materials going to the landfills, there will be a need to create a committee that will be assigned with oversight of managing the project and the funds. Using the energetic youth, the committee will employ a workforce that will oversee the collection of waste that can be recycled and that which cannot and sort it out before sending it to the landfill. Using this plan, it will be easy to identify waste that can be recycled and that which can decompose. Therefore, the amount of waste in landfills will reduce significantly.
