Fossil fuels have the highest consumption rate type of energy used in today’s world (Rinkesh, 2017). Apart from fossil fuels, there have been other forms of energy like solar which are available for use by people. Even though Fossil fuels produce carbon dioxide which creates pollution to the environment, it is still vital in the development of various economies across the globe (Melham, 2013). This is because it has been hard to develop and utilize other alternative forms of energy. Thus, the following are the reasons why it will take more years to reduce the use of Fossil fuels and learn to utilize other environment-friendly forms of energy. Fossil fuels are easily available in many countries promoting more extractions to be conducted so as to provide power. Moreover, the improvement in technology regarding the process of extraction and refineries has been advanced making the availability easier (Melham, 2013). Additionally, fossil fuels need a little fuel to generate a significant amount of energy. Therefore, other forms of energy like wind and solar will take a long time to produce on a large scale given that they require a complicated process to generate energy from them (Rinkesh, 2017). Landfills provide an efficient way of disposing of solid waste since it is designed in a way that protects the environment against pollution. Moreover, the landfills are built to concentrate the waste in well-organized layers which makes it recommendable (Hill, 2017). However, it has been associated with several problems. For instance, landfills get filled up so quickly if the waste is not reduced (Tufano, 2015). Additionally, it requires a large area for the process to be successful. Contamination also occurs if landfills are not well sealed, resulting in high maintenance costs (Tufano, 2015). If it is not well managed, then high chances are that it will turn into an open dump. Consequently, after landfills have been shut down, it requires monitoring for about 50 to 100 years which is a long period.
