The video is a crash program designed to explain the mindset of active shooters and how employees should act when there is an active shooter. The video has several security experts who, over the years, have been involved in planning law enforcement responses to active shooters. There are three types of shooters, workplace shooters and school shooters, ideological shooters, and criminal shooters. They are either involved in dynamic or static situations. The dynamic situation is when a shooting situation is rapidly changing like the shooter is moving. The static situation is when a situation is calm, and there are no ongoing acts of violence. From experience in past situations, shooters prefer a soft target such as malls, schools, or outdoor venues and events. These places have multiple entrances, and some suspects plan and may lock the door from the inside to prevent law enforcement officers from getting in. Most shooters' violence process begins from bad situations, which results in intense emotions, which gives them bad ideas. They plan these ideas and finally execute them. Workplace and school shooters perceive there is a problem within the organization, and they think that it would be solved by violence. Most of them are loaners who have no social lives and are detached from the community. Criminal shooters have selfish intents and can use vengeance to justify killing. Ideological shooters are those who commit acts of violence for a cause they believe is warranted.
People should always assess where they are, even if they are visiting a building. When there is an active shooter, they should still conceal themselves from the shooter or find cover. If there is an easy escape route, one should always choose this route. When calling 911, the first thing to say is to help police officers locate the shooter.
