The diversity course has been beneficial to me in a variety of ways. The class had increased my awareness of diversity issues by providing me with knowledge on different dimensions of diversity. The course has enabled me to examine my own cultural identity and provide more understanding of how cultural identity differences could affect the relationship that people have or develop with others around them. Additionally, the course enabled me to be more aware of my attitudes, feelings, and perceptions that concern the various aspects of diversity. It helped me to be more committed to understanding the issues and matters that affect diversity.

The course has affected my diversity awareness in a variety of ways. The first way my awareness has been affected is that I have more information on diversity and why it is a topic of concern. I came to understand that we live in a world comprised of people from different cultural backgrounds. It is essential to respect the different needs and practices associated with different cultural backgrounds. I am aware that there is a need for people to be con corned about diversity and that different diversity elements continue to be embraced in the School curriculum to enable students to integrate diversity in their early stages of lives. Diversity is an essential issue in that global market in that the goods and services produced by different countries must fit the concerns of individuals from different cultural backgrounds. Another way the course has affected my diversity awareness is that the changes associated with the global market result from the integration of diversity. The world’s economy had to develop new trends that enable cross-cultural interactions in businesses and other economic matters. Most countries continue to embrace diversity in their production to stay afloat in the competitive world. I am aware of the need for markets to design products that are suitable for the global market and meet individuals’ needs from different cultural backgrounds. There is a need for world markets to develop new strategies that can enable them to market products in other countries where people have different cultural practices. Therefore, countries need to learn how to integrate the needs of individuals from different cultural backgrounds to run successful businesses.

There are a variety of ways in which my diversity understanding ad been affected by the class. I understand that there are changes in demographics and different countries continue to change their concepts regarding the issue of diversity. Most of the world’s demographics comprise of diverse populations living in different countries. For instance, the United States constitutes a higher population of people of color due to increased immigration trends and birth rates among the minority groups. Integrating people from different cultural backgrounds in a country means that the country has to adjust its way of living to accommodate diverse populations.

I have also gained more understanding of diversity. It is an all-inclusive dimension that includes everyone because people are different from each other. Various diversity dimensions include different religious groups, race, marital status, ethnicity, and educational background, among other differences. I understand that diversity is a broad scope that provided room for all individuals. There are different dimensions of diversity that impact society than others regarding the opportunities that people can access. The two main dimensions of diversity are classified as primary and secondary diversity. The primary dimension is concerned with the essential requirement in diversity and cannot be changed or altered and have extremely powerful effects. Secondary diversity dimensions are meant to shape individuals, and there are control measures out upon them.

My diversity skills have been affected in a variety of ways after taking the class. I have developed more awareness of diversity and can recognize differences as diversity and not as inappropriate responses to the environment. My developed skills in diversity awareness have enabled me to respect diverse behavior’s benefits among individuals from different cultural backgrounds. I am better positioned to accept and find some essential values in each culture that I interact with, and I have developed a clear sense of my cultural practices. Creating more awareness of diversity has helped me understand how different cultures affect people in a different manner, and I am in a better position to recognize those similarities shared across different cultures disregard the cultural differences among different people.

Another way that my skills have been sharpened is that I understand why it is essential to take personal responsibility in responding to the differences among individuals. I continue to understand the world from different perceptions ad I have added in my cross-cultural interactions and communications skills. Additionally, I have gained a better knowledge of problem-solving skills and the skills that help me manage conflicts. The skills that I have gained have helped me integrate and work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds (Ingram, 2001).

Diversity Benefits

There are many benefits that an individual can gain from valuing diversity. The lesson has enhanced my diversity competence that in that I have gained more awareness, knowledge, and skills about diversity. The class has also enabled me to understand the various challenges associated with diversity and understand diversity’s underlying principles. Another benefit gained from the lesson is that I have developed diversity competence and become more committed to the issue.

Diversity Communication

Communication plays an essential role in promoting diversity awareness because it is vital for bringing together individuals from different cultural backgrounds. It helps break the ice among people of different cultures and brings them closer to each other, hence enhancing diversity. People who originate from different communities and have different religious backgrounds can only use communication to understand more about the world around them. Communication brings people together, and it is the only tool that can make different people understand each other (Edmondson et al., 2009)

The two ways to improve my communication skills are to step out of my norms and consider how I communicate and what I say will affect a wide range of people. I need to take time and think about the background of my message and the impact that it will have on people from different cultural backgrounds. Another way to improve my communication skills is by reflecting on my personal beliefs and how my unconscious bias can influence the way I communicate with diverse populations.

Diversity Goals

The two most essential diversity goals for the future include considering diversity factors and valuing and respecting individuals’ differences from different cultural backgrounds. Putting the diversity factors into consideration is an effective way of managing diversity in that it prevents people from stigmatizing other people that are different from their cultural backgrounds. It is essential to welcome and tolerate the differences that exist among individuals from different cultural backgrounds. The second goal is to take into account diversity factors and valuing the differences that exist among individuals. This goal calls for individuals to overlook the differences in race, age, religious backgrounds, gender, and sexual orientation differences, among other differences in different people. Overlooking such factors is the most fundamental goal that can enhance diversity as it advocated for inclusion in people of different cultures.

Diversity Actions

The three specific ways to achieve my diversity goals are to first advocate for diversity among all people that I interact with. This means that I will take the initiative to educate individuals on the importance of diversity to practice to overlook the differences that exist among themselves and learn to embrace such differences. This practice will benefit the community at large as it involves interacting with people from different backgrounds. A second method that I will use to achieve my goals is to enhance diversity by changing how I intend to change how I interact with people from different cultural backgrounds and consider the effects that can result from my mode of communication. This will help me act as a role model to other individuals to learn to embrace diversity. The third way to achieve my goal is by advocating for an inclusive community that accepts and knows how to integrate with individuals from different cultural backgrounds.

The resource that I will need to honor the commitment includes individuals who are ready to learn and adjust to change and a community that is ready to integrate people with different cultural backgrounds. This will make it easier for me to introduce new socialization methods among individuals who can readily embrace diversity.

Diversity promotes a fully integrated society that accepts the differences that exist among people from different cultural backgrounds. The lesson has provided me with essential knowledge on the entire topic and helped me to sharpen my skills in the area of diversity. I have learned to develop my communication skills so as to be mindful of the differences that exist in how people interpret information in different ways, depending on their cultural backgrounds. Providing basic education on how to embrace diverse populations can help me achieve my long term goals in enhancing a diverse population.
