Student 1

The student included all the steps of the scientific method. When writing scientific reports, one must have the introduction, methods, results, discussions, and conclusions ( Bahadoran et al., 2020) . The student began by providing the background problem and explains how she derived the hypothesis. She also mentions how the study tested the hypothesis and clarifies the methods used. Besides, the student also provides the study results, discusses the findings, and offers a conclusion.

However, the student does not clearly state the control. In this scientific experiment, control would be eight hours of sleep since it the recommended period for rest (Chaput et al., 2018). The student should have measured how having few sleeping hours affected her ability to go to the gym.

The student identified all the variables correctly. A scientific study should have independent and dependent variables. An independent variable for this study is eight hours of sleep, and the dependent variable is mood and behaviors on the following days. Besides, the research question highlights the relationship between the variables.

Nonetheless, the student can improve the experiment. In the introduction section, the student should have mentioned the experiment’s purpose to inform the audience about the research’s significance. When proposing the method, she should include controls and in-depth details. For example, she should have specified the experiment’s period and the sleeping hours required to make a person active. She should have included statistical figures, such as easy-to-read percentages and ratios, in the results and explain how the raw data supports or disproves the research question ( Bahadoran et al., 2020) . The student can also improve her work by stating how the findings support past studies. This approach shows the experiment’s contribution to the scientific community. Another suggestion is to use past tense since the student is reporting the events that already happened. Also, the student should have mentioned past research perspectives on the subject. This approach would have enhanced the student’s credibility.

Student 2

The student has failed to incorporate all the steps of the scientific method. His post focuses mostly on the background problem. In a scientific approach, the background falls under the introduction. Therefore, this post has only an introduction and suggested solutions. The student failed to describe vital elements such as hypothesis, purpose statement, methods, results, discussion, and conclusion ( Bahadoran et al., 2020) . For this reason, the post appears as an observation instead of a scientific experiment.

Furthermore, the student did not include the controls. In this post, the students describe the elements of troubleshooting. In a scientific experiment, explanations of terms fall under the introduction section ( Bahadoran et al., 2020) . Control would be a normal working computer. The student should have then compared a normal computer with computers that have multiple software issues.

Moreover, the student did not identify the variables. An independent and dependent variable must clearly be stated in scientific research ( Bahadoran et al., 2020) . In this post, an independent variable troubleshooting and the dependent variable would have been a Wi-Fi connection. A research question would have guided the audience on how the variables correlate.

The student’s post requires significant improvement. He needs to organize the main ideas into paragraphs. This style would enable a reader to identify the introduction, methods, results, and discussions. Additionally, the student needs to reduce the focus on background information. Instead, he should have mentioned the purpose of the study and how he would achieve the results. Including a literature review would have demonstrated the student’s knowledge of the topic ( Bahadoran et al., 2020) . This post would have been effective if the student had included well-stated results. The student should have provided raw data by comparing different computers’ performance upon using the troubleshooting method. Another suggestion is to include a research question or hypothesis and explain whether the results were satisfactory ( Bahadoran et al., 2020) . Also, the student should have included the practical implications of their findings.
