In my leadership experience, I have come to realize that transformational leaders have influenced my characteristics over time. I once worked under a person who had both referent power and legitimate power on me. He was the manager and my role model in matters to do with leadership. I learned many norms of behavior from him.
Some of his leadership traits include being a transformational leader who can keep the whole team engaged on attainment of a specific goal. The leader is also an effective communicator. He is also visionary and can inculcate the vision to the rest of the team. He applauds creativity and innovation while also fostering team building and teamwork ( Raven, 2017) . These traits align with the legitimate power base where the leader is at the top of the group and is involved directly in the decision making the process of the organization. Much of the guidance comes from the leader.

I have developed the skill of active listening and communication with those under my management. I aspire to become a manager in future, which means I need to learn how to build meaningful relationships with my team if the team members are to be committed towards the attainment of my vision ( Raven, 2017) . With the desire to motivate others, communication is one skill that I will need to have prowess in if I am to have an impact on others.
Some of the areas I need to focus on include vision development and communication of the same to my subordinates. Legitimate power comes with being able to have a vision for the future and ensuring that the team shares it ( Rylander, 2016) . I need to learn how to engage everyone in the decision-making process to ensure that they are committed to the vision I have for the organization. Consequently, innovation and creativity in a team is something I look forward to developing as a leader.
