This paper will focus on the cinematography in the movie Black Panther. The cinematography aspect was chosen because it is uniquely used in this movie more than in many other films. Black Panther is ranked at position eighteen in the series of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is unique for several reasons. First, it is the first mega-budget movie of the era to have had an African American director. Again, the movie's cast is predominantly black, and it was the first time in the film industry that Hollywood deliberately produced a blockbuster that is splendid black. Since the movie was released in 2014, it has been lauded for multiple magnificent features: the professional and sure direction, the fully fleshed actors, costume and production design of its kind, and the above all its unique cinematography. The movie does well in several features and characteristics, but it, however, it excels when it comes to cinematography.

Black Panther’s cinematic techniques and styles are unlike anything seen before in the movie industry. The central motivation of the unique cinematography in the movie gives it a rare scene that has never been filmed before. The primary issue with how most of the Marvel movies are shot is how the fight scenes are created. Most films use the fast cut and shaky-cam technique in creating the disorienting brawls (Day, 2018). However, Black Panther uses this technique in most of its fight scenes, but a little differently to give it a touch of refreshment, yet maintaining its uniqueness. Indeed, Black Panther was made for more. Its cinematography cannot be compared with that of any movie. In the film, cinematographer Morrison Rachel does more than just 'landing a shooting.’ He is lauded for his perfect camera angle settings, and angle turns, plus enhancing sophisticated filming scenarios that give the movie a unique touch.

The cinematographic in the film change progressively as the movie progresses. The uniqueness of the movie’s fight scenes cannot be over-emphasized. The shots are kept as wide as possible to allow for a rather smooth transition and change over. In most of the scenes, there are long tracking shots as the cameras move around the scene to showcase the greatest and most unique fighting moments from the outstanding characters like Okoye, T’Challa, and Nakia (Day, 2018). The camera work was perfectly done and was unlike anything seen before in the Marvel enterprise. In addition to the perfectly calculated camera turn angles, the choreography is also uniquely different in the movie. Apart from hand to hand fights, new fights are introduced in Black Panther, and new and more sophisticated weapons are also used. The use of weapons featuring traditional brute instruments of war adds more ‘natural’ and realism to the fight scenes. There are also unique new weapons coming from Wakanda, which also add to the exceptional cinematography of the movie. For example, if it were not for the unique cinematography, the scene by the waterfalls would not have been made as gorgeous as it was. The perfectly done camera work skills deserve more praise above anything else. The unique skills of cinematographer Morrison and the ingenious of Director Coogler led to the creation of one of the most creative, innovative, and colorful film. Overall, the cinematography is one of the most exciting features of Black Panther.
