Amazon is a big internet-based company that sells books, music, houseware, electronics, among other things. The company also has data renting services and cloud computing over the internet as well as the e-book platform Kindle. The human resource department is a crucial department in ensuring the implementation of the operational strategy of the company. The department has the capability of influencing the results in the outcome of the company's objectives (Stroh & Reilly, 2011). The human resource department can ensure the human resource strategy is aligned to the business strategy through the cooperation of the human resource department and senior management in aligning the organizational goals with the human resource goals. This way, the organization buys into the objectives of the organization and works towards its achievement. Another way is through the formulation of specific activities to be performed by particular offices and employees in the organization. Monitoring and evaluation of the identified activities should also be identified and the process implemented.

The amazon human resource department functions include selection and recruitment of qualified personnel, training, and development, management of employee compensation, maintaining of the good relationship among employees, and ensuring compliance of employment and labor laws among other roles related to the welfare of the employees. The human resource department also helps establish a productive work environment and ensure a good attitude among workers to ensure they perform at par with their potential. Human resource management is also concerned with ensuring cordial working relationships among the workers and the company's management while at the same time ensuring the satisfaction of the individual needs of the workers. The department also invests in ensuring performance by individuals and departments. The duties of the human resource department ensure that amazon has the required personnel who are qualified to ensure amazon can deliver on their mission and objectives. I prefer training and development specialists. This is because this position will enable me to participate in training and development programs for employees. The position is tasked with training employees and implementation of performance improvement activities that would improve the performance of the workers in the company. Amazon's corporate culture faces various challenges that impair its competitive advantage. Amazon can set reasonable standards and expectations for its employees. Amazon has been associated with setting unrealistic standards to its employees. This policy has resulted into increased pressure on employees leading to poor results and unnecessary competition among the employees. Rivalry among the employees hinders cooperation, which is essential in order to ensure the achievement of the company's objectives. Amazon can work towards ensuring that the management is sensitive towards their employees through involvement of human resource in planning the future of the company (Ulrich, Younger, & Brockbank, 2008). An excellent working relationship is essential in ensuring that the workers buy into the objectives of the company and work effortlessly towards it. A good working relationship also promotes excellent communication that can be used by employees to share their ideas on how their work and be done efficiently. The employees also can share their challenges enabling the managers to resolve them hence ensuring that workers can perform their duties with minimal difficulties.

Amazon can increase diversity through changing unfair systems of ranking to other systems that value the contribution of each employee in the organization. Unjust systems only lead to unnecessary competition and unappreciation by the company's management. Regular monitoring on work done should not discriminate and transform people into machines. This unfair system of evaluation causes a termination of valuable talent hence hindering the achievement of the company's objectives. The second way is the provision of benefits to employees. A requirement of bonuses enables the employees to realize their welfare is essential hence motivating them to work in the company. The other alternative would be the establishment of reasonable standards for the workers enabling work under minimal pressure.
