Hyperglycemia, which can also be described as high blood pressure, occurs as a condition that is characterized by high levels of blood glucose levels (Mäe et al., 2018). The condition arises from a situation where the body is not producing enough insulin, which is a hormone, that would aid in regulating blood sugar levels. The foods that people consume are the most significant sources of glucose, which creates the need for the body to release adequate amounts of insulin to help in regulating the glucose levels in the blood system (Metzger et al., 2008). In cases where the body is not in a position to release insulin, the most likely outcome is that the persons involved are likely to experience a significant increase in blood glucose levels. The main focus of this report is to examine a case study involving a group of 21 mice with hyperglycemia with the intention of having to examine the possibility of using coffee to help in the prevention of the development of high blood sugar. The steps that would be undertaken tend to vary from one research study to another considering that the steps taken would serve as a vital determinant of the successful outcome of the study, in question. However, it is essential to consider the need for having to take into consideration several key factors, which would help in determining the credibility of a study. Firstly, the researchers have an essential mandate towards ensuring that they create a research question, which would serve as the basis of the study. The research question will act as a guide for the overall process of research. The second step involves the development of a hypothesis, which would serve as the expected outcome of the study. In this research study, Yamauchi et al. (2010) focused on a study that would seek to examine the overall possibility of using coffee as one of the critical preventive mechanisms that would aid in reducing the development of hyperglycemia. The research question was focused on the use of coffee and its impacts on reducing the possibility of high blood sugar levels for consumers. On the other hand, the hypothesis was that the mice that consumed high levels of coffee would experience a reduced risk of high blood sugar levels. The exact steps that the researchers took were considered as being critical in advancing the general perception touching on the fact that indeed coffee would be of great value in reducing risks of diabetes. That means that the researchers understood the value of having to consider all essential aspects associated with the preparation of a valid research study. The researchers focused much of their attention on the use of mice as the test subjects to help in determining the impacts of coffee on reducing the risks of high blood sugar, type 2 diabetes. The selection of the test subjects is seen as being sufficient for the study taking into account that the use of mice would aid in effective testing, which would be of great value in defining the credibility of the study. The scientific tests conducted can be considered as being relevant and appropriate, as they pave the way for a somewhat structured approach to conducting a survey that would go in line with the research question. That means that it becomes much more comfortable when using this study as a tool through which to help in defining overall possibilities in the meeting set out standards in research.

During the experimentation, Yamauchi et al. (2010) focused on a total number of 21 mice as the sample size for the 5-week study. Although it can be argued that the sample size may have been appropriate for the study, it must also be noted that the experimentation on the mice was done only once. That means that it was hard to determine the extent to which external factors may have influenced the study. The methods adopted as part of the study may not have been appropriate for the study considering that the researchers focused on four-week-old male mice. That means that the study may have resulted in some form of bias, which was likely to affect the reliability and validity of the study outcomes. For the research methods to be considered as being appropriate for the study, the researchers ought to have focused much of their attention on selecting the mice randomly without having to determine their gender and age. That would have helped in defining whether the factors of age and gender are likely to influence the outcomes of the experiment conducted. From a general perspective, it can be argued that the case study conducted as part of this study did not take into account the expectations in terms of highlighting the ultimate viability and validity of the study. That means that it becomes hard to determine the extent to which the factors that the researchers may have ignored would have an impact on the study while considering the overall possibility that they are likely to impact the expected outcomes. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1.5 million can be directly related to the effects of diabetes, which accounts for 9% of adults over the age of 18 years (World Health Organization, 2015). That serves as a clear indication of the fact that indeed it is essential to embark on a study that would aid in the overall process of defining the best possible approaches that would help towards reducing the risks of diabetes. That acts as a clear reflection of the importance and relevance of this research study concerning ensuring that it can reduce the possibility of death among patients diagnosed with diabetes (Clement et al., 2004). Additionally, the relevance of the research study can be seen from the fact that it provides readers with a clear link between the consumption of coffee and longevity regardless of their diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. That means that the article seeks to reflect on the overall possibility of ensuring that persons using coffee would be protected from the high risks of type 2 diabetes.

Conclusion

The case study considered as part of this analysis focuses on hyperglycemia, which is a condition that is characterized by a significant increase in blood glucose levels resulting from the inability of the body to release insulin. In the case study, the researchers embarked on a study that was focused on examining the importance of using coffee as one of the ways through which to prevent the development of high blood sugar. The researchers focused on using a group of 21 mice as the test subjects, which were taken through a 5-week experiment to determine the positive impacts of coffee on increasing human longevity.
