Race, ethnicity, sexuality, and gender began since 1960s as civil right groups have ignited interest in the issues of identity. Issues such as, racial justice, women’s rights, lesbian, gays, bisexual, and LGBT rights, are contested (In Ferguson, 2016).

I have a Japanese American friend whom I met while in fourth grade and since then we have stroked a friendship for a long time now, by that time; we were too young to understand that the issue of race existed. However, as time went by, we coincidentally joined a neighboring high school together, race discrimination started to creep in our conscience. This prompted us to talk critically about race and racial discrimination.

Sociology recognizes racial discrimination as a belief that different inherent traits in racial groups justify discrimination, and racial stereotyping. Sociology further recognizes racism as a violation to human rights, and an insult to human rights. In order to combat discrimination, the struggle against racism has become a matter of priority (Blank, Dabady, & Citro, 2014).

Equal rights provide that the legal equality of the sexes as matter of importance, any form of discrimination based on sex is highly discouraged. Men should be interested in promoting the equity of women through speaking out to reduce incidences of sexual exploitation and domestic violence, and an economic disadvantage. Since, they are the ones who have a higher representation as lawmakers; they further shape national debates and know how to prioritize issues thereby pushing for the agenda of women (Canning, Bloom, Kleindorfer, 2017).

Women of color undergo oppression since their status is rooted to slavery, whites’ believed that other colored races were inferior to them. Lesbian colored women are triple oppressed since they are perceived by the majority society as being of different ethnicity; they are also seen as less important people, and even very unacceptable by others (Blank, Dabady, & Citro, 2014).

Finally, our friendship circle has learnt to integrate people of various genders and sexual orientation to foster society different cultural diversity, and integration and use the diversified cultures to foster progress.

How Modern Prejudice Looks Like

Economic factors such as where to work, how much to save and invest, and what education to acquire are basic factors affecting g the family. Inflation erodes the purchasing power since there is a universal rise in price across the economy, spending more to salvage the currency being held further leads to increased inflation because of the panic to invest and spend ( NPR Choice page, 2018 ).

Family, economy, and education co-exist to enhance a better living, good economic times would encourage me to save, and seek for better education so that in the end I would get a good job and earn for a good living. Accessing college education would surely eradicate poverty in my life, through earning an income that would sustain my expenditures, help me leave a healthier life and consider the general benefits of protecting the environment. I would then be able to support family and make wise investment and saving decisions to eradicate poverty and accumulate wealth.

The 115 th US congress has produced senators whom I know a few, Trey Hollingsworth of the Republican party, Aston Donald McEachin of the Democratic party being the senator of Virginia District 4, Rodger Marshall of the Republican party being the senator of Kansas District 1, just to mention a few ( List of current members of the U.S. Congress, 2018 ). It is very important to know my civic leader and the voting patterns since; there is likelihood that social change will be supported. One, it’s a democratic right to vote when once you turn the majority age so as to keep the government system working, moreover knowing my leader will ensure that I keep track of how they are representing the issues of the citizens of the congress house ( List of current members of the U.S. Congress, 2018 ).
