The research approach used in the study

The research used applied research. Applied research is also referred to as practical research and it involves the scientific investigation that a researcher conducts to generate vital knowledge that can be used to positively improve clinical practice (Lee, Fan, Hung, Pai, & Chou, 2016). Conversely, basic research is conducted to find the truth behind a given phenomenon because it focuses on “knowledge for knowledge’s sake.

The specific type of research method

The specific research method applied in the study is quantitative because it involved a rigorous process. It investigated the different ways in which variables are interrelated to find the best treatment that can provide effective solutions to the problems (Lee, Fan, Hung, Pai, & Chou, 2016). For example, the study examined as a sample population of nurses to depict the relationship between nurse burnout rates and other available variables including meaningful recognition. I believe the purpose of choosing a given quantitative method is to research a specific problem, which seems to be common among all nurses. Therefore, the study examined how the different variables impacted this problem. Qualitative research is important since it can provide the relationship between phenomena and life experiences.

The other type of research design

The researcher could also use quasi-experimental research. To best study the topic, I would ensure that I pick the best treatment to provide solutions to the problem of nurse burnout. For example, I would resort to either journaling or exercising and survey all the participants before and after implementation (Lee, Fan, Hung, Pai, & Chou, 2016). By so doing, I would determine the level at which it affects the job satisfaction ratings of nurses.

Why I would choose to study the topic this way

I would choose to study the topic as explained above because quasi-experimental research can reveal the impact of one variable on the other. For instance, implementing treatment or solution to the nurse burnout issue can provide the effects of one variable on the next (Lee, Fan, Hung, Pai, & Chou, 2016). Also, quasi-experimental research does not require too much control over the treatment and the environment as evident in other methods such as experimental studies, which tend to be more rigorous.
