Most Italians emigrated to the united states and particularly New Jersey, due to the high population growth rate experienced in their country, making it nearly impossible for many of them to secure employment. As most Italian were farmers, the unprecedented fall of grain prices and the wine market's loss attributed to grapevines disease, rendering many of them unemployed.
Many Irish migrated due to severe famine in their home country caused by devastating potato crop failure, which was their staple food that led to starvation and death of large portions of the Irish population. Moreover, most Irish migrated to escape political and religious conflicts in their home country, where the superior protestants in Ireland discriminated against the catholic Irish people. The catholic therefore migrated to the USA as she offered a high degree of tolerance to diverse political and religious affiliations (Shaw, 2016). Furthermore, most Irishmen migrated due to high poverty levels in their home country, as most of them were landless agricultural laborers who worked for the British landlords.
