Medical adherence is merely the collaborative process of understanding between the patient and the health professional to ensure holistic following and usage of medication therapies. Therefore, for diabetes patients, adherence to medication is one of the fundamental steps to recovery. Research shows that 88% of medicines that prescribed by the clinical officers are dispensed while only 47%are continued (UC San Diego Health, 2014). My 71-year-old dad belongs to the 50% group of patients who are persistent with the chronic medication therapies.

In the full understanding that non-compliance to medication is the most significant contributor to the morbidity, mortality, and quality of life in diabetic patient’s lives, it is essential to have a clear evidence-based plan for my dad. His reliance on the Metformin to control his sugar level is complicated with advanced age and thus regular missing of dosages. Counseling is regarded as one m=of the fundamental ways of deriving interest from the patients to keep in line with the medication instructions. With the criticality of his advanced age, my dad needs a medical professional who will understand his case to the very best. As said by Candis Morello, “Counseling can be more effective if pharmacists recognize that individual patients are each motivated to adhere to their drug regimens in different ways,” (UC San Diego Health, 2014).    It is essential to recommend an understanding physician for my dad who will take care of all his needs as well as identifying what works for him.

Diabetes, being a complicated sickness, requires a collection of drugs and medications to control the patient’s sugar levels to its very best. It is, therefore, critical to bring forth a working plan with regular visits to clinical facilities with a dedicated team of physicians to ensure that my dad is well taken care of in as far as the control of his medical partaking and adherence is concerned.

The application of the medical boxes is presumed to be the most reliable way of generating medical adherence to my dad as he proceeds with his medications. It is also true that making the patient understand that diabetes drug works best in low blood sugar level motivates them to want to keep loyal to their medication schedule. This information, coming from a reliable physician will drive my father to stay keen on his medications.

Non-adherence, on the other hand, may include the patients’ inability to afford the medication (UC San Diego Health, 2014). My dad at his advanced age is not economically empowered, thus, may not be able to provide all the dosages for his treatment. Through our support, however, we can meet most of the medications. Otherwise, the physicians end up prescribing different medicines at every point to deal with the development of nausea and annual weight loss.

Physicians are best suited to help the patients overcome their challenges with nonadherence to medication. In actual sense, through counseling, and interpersonal connection with the patient is the most suitable way to ensure that patients are committed to their medical prescriptions and medications. In realities, there is need to have the thorough medical education to patients to help them understand that there is a need for them to understand some of the excellent details how the medication works and the costs of not adhering to a single set of medical procedures.

The most considerable evidence of successful session for diabetes patients like the case of my dad is his ability to keep the checks in the medical boxes. Whenever he can check, on his own accord to take his medications well as keeping in mind the adverse effects of skipping his medicine, is an indication that the patient based health care for the diabetes patient is successful. With all measures put together, the surest way to get a patient loyal to their medication is by taking them through the relevant medical education to help them understand the need for making their drugs regularly.
