Whole health can be defined as a multidisciplinary approach to holistic health where the body, spirit, and the mind are fully nourished. By undertaking whole health, an individual is prepared for bettering oneself naturally. As such, whole health constitutes building a strong foundation upon which the best form of care is built. Studies have pointed out that whole health is founded on evidence-based solutions that are aimed at bettering lives through adopting healthy, real-world, and simple solutions. During the health fair that I attended on “Whole Health Orientation” numerous lessons were learned as discussed in this essay.
Healthy living facts
Healthy living is an integral aspect of our lives and as such individuals should aim at maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It is critical to observe dietary balance with the bulk of the diet being composed of fruits, whole grains, vegetables, and low-fat food products. Additionally, it is important to control eating portions with efforts being made towards eating only what satisfies hunger, in addition, to avoid eating heavy meals just before sleeping to reduce instances of excessive weight gain and gastro-esophageal reflux.

Physical health
Physical health is an important part of whole health contributing significantly to physical fitness and the ultimate avoidance of diseases that result from unhealthy lifestyles. Undertaking physical exercises makes the body to create endurance, burn excess fats, and fosters disease prevention. Therefore, it is important to engage in regular physical activities noting that studies have confirmed the positive relationship between physical exercises and prevention of age-related declines in muscle strength. Additionally, physical exercises have proven to play a pivotal role in improving balance, endurance, flexibility, and decreasing osteoporosis. During the health fair, individuals were advised to commit themselves to at least thirty minutes of exercise which can be broken into small sessions of ten minutes. Moreover, an emphasis has been put on starting with limited exercises and gradually increasing the intensity.
Mental health
Whole health may not be complete without the input on mental health. It is worth mentioning that healthy living encompasses more than just the physical attributes of health but also the emotional and mental health status. It is therefore paramount for individuals to step up in enhancing their mental health status through getting enough sleep while constantly trying out new things such as taking different routes to work. Studies point out that getting involved in mental exercises such as reading and solving puzzles has the potential to radically boost the mental health of individuals. Additionally, engaging people on different topics and setting aside some time for leisure is a notable step towards achieving positive mental health.
Avoidance behavior
While the emphasis is put on mental and physical health as well as healthy feeding, little is said about behavioral approaches to whole health. Achieving healthy living is a factor of keeping off the behavior that potentially harms the body. For example, tobacco use has been shown to have dire impacts on the status of individual health. Therefore efforts ought to be made to avoid the use of tobacco which has been shown to cause over two hundred thousand deaths annually in the United States. Tobacco use contributes to cancers, cardiovascular illnesses such as strokes and heart attacks as well as resulting in chronic lung diseases.
Additionally, more efforts are required in avoiding excessive consumption of alcohol with studies pointing out that chronic alcohol consumption is a major cause for liver cirrhosis and automobile deaths. Other risky behavior including high-risk sexual activities ranging from multiple sexual partners also needs to be avoided.
