The reading this week is about the importance of data in the process of decision-making in an organization or any other set up in the society. Before any decision is made, data is collected from the area of jurisdiction and analyzed to determine the magnitude of the problem. After the analysis of the data and results presented, recommendations are offered regarding the procedure to be observed when addressing the problem. Having worked in an organization for a given period, it was a challenge to the organization addressing problems experienced within and outside the organization ( Gottlieb, 2018 ). For example, many customers were shifting to other organizations to buy the same products offered in the organization. This week’s readings and activities are related to my personal or professional experience, as it provides a solution to such problems in the organization. Such organization can adopt the strategy of collecting and analyzing data before making decisions regarding the reasons for the customers shifting to other organizations.
My greatest take away this week relates to the sources of the data used in the process of assessing the situation before making a crucial decision in the organization. The data is divided into two; structured and unstructured data. Structured data are the records from the digital sources while the unstructured data are the records in the traditional files. Customers can access such data, employees, organizational records, and other sources. I find the use of data to assess the problem and make recommendation most beneficial in this week’s reading and activities. The data collected in the field will enable the organization to have tangible evidence about the problem, and the procedure followed when addressing the problem ( Gottlieb, 2018 ). From the readings, I would change the need to train the staff within the organization to obtain professional knowledge regarding the procedures followed when collecting and analyzing data before making crucial decisions. Many organizations outsource professionals and experts to work on the data collection and analysis, which will lead to higher expenses as compared with training internal staff to work on search procedures.
