An importance of debriefings is that the healthy handling skills of some group members can be shared with other group members. Debriefings are not compulsory but all the staff nurses and other members are requested to engage in the process, which is focused at supporting and affirming the staff. Debriefings sessions provide opportunities to nurses whereby they accept the normal responses of a traumatic situation and bring about a great understanding and positivity among members of the group (Milliken, Clements & Tillman, 2007). Debriefing has helped most departments in hospitals handle situations in a more therapeutic manner generally. It fosters the ability of nursing staff to work together by putting traumatic events and other mild ones, into a proper perspective. The works of the groups within this debriefing process support the cohesion of staff, which is important to healthy morale. Debriefings foster timely and relevant discussions in a non-judgmental and non-threatening way. It is particularly important for those nurses who have gone through challenging situations but are unwilling to talk about them.
