In the recent world dominated by the globalization of markets, many business people from the various parts of the world are coming together to make engagements that address the issues they face at the global level. According to Welch, the language used in international businesses can be perceived from three perspectives; as a source of power, as a barrier, or as a facilitator (Tenzer et al., 2017). Many global gatherings and conferences bring together business people from both the developing and developed world. The people taking part in these engagements show diversity in social, cultural, and linguistic characteristics. English serves as a solution to the communication process. English is the most common language used in many parts of the world. It comprises the most widely spoken language in the world. Statistics indicate that approximately 1500 million people in the world speak the English language. More than 1 billion people speak English as a foreign language, while 375 million speak it as a native language. In the modern world, English has a wide range of significance in the business world.

The use of English in international business helps to rise above the normal and the basic standards of a business. In the traditional pre-globalization age, English knowledge was recognized as an added advantage. It was used as a mark to mark the sophistication and superior knowledge. In the modern world, however, people from various parts of the world are expected to have knowledge of the English language. Many business people in countries where the English language is the native language, as well as countries where English is barely spoken, are embracing the role of the English language in increasing the level of engagements across the globe (Tenzer et al., 2017). Employers in various business sectors expect their existing employees, as well as potential employees, to have knowledge of the English language to enhance their interaction with their counterparts in other parts of the world. Many employers expect employees to be perfectly competent and fluent in writing and speaking the English language.

The use of the English language helps to enhance uniformity in communication in the modern business world. As mentioned earlier, business people in the world show diversity in culture and language. English has been the most dominant language used in many international conferences (Beeler et al., 2017) . English knowledge helps to ensure business people understand communication efficiently. It enhances teamwork and collaboration. In the worst-case scenario, business people with limited English knowledge are likely to suffer from the negative impacts of miscommunication. These misunderstandings are likely to put the affected companies and employee's jobs at stake. Many modern businesses require employees with superior networking skills. Such employees must demonstrate a high level of competency and fluency in the knowledge f the English language. The knowledge and use of the English language help to develop interpersonal communication within the businesses at the global level (Shen, 2019) . It also enhances the process of linking a business to the international world. There are many conferences held across the globe to evaluate the common challenges faced by businessmen who carry out business across international borders.

The use of the English language helps to make the effective communication. It is difficult to deliver a speech or make any international presentation in any native language. The knowledge of the English language provides a common base for language uniformity (Sanden, 2016) . The knowledge of the English language helps to develop a good flow of ideas and thoughts that can be grasped by business people with limited English knowledge. Having a business idea or thought is not solely enough; business people need to structure the thoughts and idea in an approach that can be understood by the entire audience. Knowledge of the English language and use in international business has two main aspects; writing as well as speaking skills (Schroedler, 2018) . There are slight differences that exist between English spoken and written in the United States and the English spoken and written in British English. However, the differences are minimal, with little impact on the word meaning.

The use of English in international business helps to increase a business’s competitive edge. English language knowledge helps to increase business integration and cooperation in the world. One aspect through which English helps to increase competitive edge in modern international businesses is through improving management. The language used in business communication has a direct impact on the business management process. In the management process, the dissemination of information is essential and critical. The flow of information should be that which ensues all people understand the content being communicated (Beeler et al., 2017) . The language used to convey a message has a huge impact on how the message is received. The language used in business communication has the ability to alter the intended message content. Business people need to establish where there exist communication gaps in their organizations and how English address the gaps. Businesses that do not utilize English in their communication patterns are likely to suffer a low, competitive edge. The use of the English language helps to increase a business's competitive edge by opening up more opportunities to expand their business at the international levels.

A business organization with the ability to express the ability to use English as the primary language attracts many potential investors and business partners. Fluency in English language utilization in international business is closely related to strong leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and a high level of empathy. The mastery of the English language facilitates the development of life skills required to succeed in global business activities. English acts as a source of power in an international business setting by facilitating the flow of information.
