Quality is a degree of excellence to something; it is the standard of something measured against things of the same kind. When products and services are able to meet the customer’s needs then we can term them as being of quality. In production, quality goes in hand with performance. Better performance translates to higher quality. In the manufacturing department, quality is met when standards are confirmed. The definition of quality can hence vary across the entire organizational categories, which are marketing, manufacturing, and product based. The meaning can interchange depending on the category. However, generally, quality is a measure or a degree of excellence placed on something. Quality is an important aspect of any organization providing services or goods. Provision of quality products and goods will help an organization to maintain customer loyalty and satisfaction. Quality will ensure that customers’ expectations are met. Quality plays a critical role in fulfilling the customer’s expectation of the organization's services or goods. Quality will also ensure that the organization has maintained higher prices for their services. Provision of quality will ensure the organization's reputation is maintained and managed. Quality will greatly influence the reputation of your organization and how consumers perceive the organization. Provision of quality will help in managing costs, since poor quality increases costs, like consumers returning faulty products. In the year 2009 Toyota, a company that manufactures motor vehicles, experienced a quality problem and lead to the infamous Toyota recall of Toyota vehicles. Millions of cars were recalled from the United States due to quality concerns. Poorly placed mats under the driver’s seat that might lead to uncontrolled acceleration. The quality concerns had negative impacts on the company, its reputation had been greatly affected and Toyota’s competitors took over the market. The recall greatly affected the company. Under new management, Toyota has tried to fix its quality issues over the years. Increasingly adding its popularity and restoring its good reputation (Cole, 2011).
