Victims of crime need justice, and the police force plays a vital part in helping the victims access justice. Naturally, the victim of a crime will have undergone mental and physical torture and they need all the help they can get to get them back on their feet. Since the police interact more often with the crime victims than other professionals, they are better positioned to serve victims.

There are many ways in which police forces can aid the victims of crime through the process. First, police need to treat the victims of crime in a respectable, sensitive, and more professional manner (Metropolitan Police, n.d). The victims will feel at ease when they learn that they are respected and that the matter in police hands is being treated sensitively. Most importantly, the police will need to exercise professionalism in handling the victims' information. For example, the victim's sensitive documents should not be exposed to suspects.

Police can also serve the best interests of the crime victims by providing essential and emergency assistance in the aftermath of victimization (OVC, n.d). This would entail enabling them to access medical services to facilitate recovery in case of injuries requiring attention. With the help of the police, the victim will be under security to prevent suspects from interfering. This protects the victims of crime from being victimized again.

The police force still has a duty to help victims learn how to access information and support in the future. This entails educating them on how to access emergency services in case of an attack. This aid allows victims of crime to remain informed and empowered in case of future attacks. Police should also assist the victims of crime know the procedures to be followed if a court case ensues. This would entail familiarizing them with their duties and obligations as they pursue justice.
