According to Henderson, the unique function of a nurse is helping people sick or well to examine their responses to their health condition. Besides, nurses assist patients to satisfy those activities leading to health or recovery which they would have executed single-handedly if they possessed the knowledge or expertise. (Norman, 2017). Social change, on the other side, is described as the change, evolution, or growth within a society or culture (McMichael, 2016) . A nurse practitioner is an individual who obtains advanced training in nursing so they can function unaided when taking care of their patients. For many years, nurses have been ranked as the most trustworthy profession. On that note, nurses are the most qualified personnel to bestow social change to psychiatric-mental patients.

One thing to comprehend is that for a while, psychiatric mental disorders have been criticized by the health care fraternity, family, and society. Therefore, mental health patients have been subject to discrimination and stigmatization. However, the mental health bill has provided mental health patients an opportunity to access health care services. Despite the regulation mandating care to psychiatric patients, there is still a disparity in the care provided and the attitudes in the society (Creamer & Austin, 2017) .

Luckily, the stigma invested in society can be eradicated if mental health awareness is spread across the community. This will happen because society will recognize that mental health disorders are just physical illness that needs treatment to be cured. Nurse practitioners play an integral role in helping the community understand that mental health disorders are just like other disorders. This is by explaining and teaching the community the dynamics of mental illnesses. Ultimately, society as a whole will understand the need for mental health services to these individuals and, eventually, compel them to offer love to these patients.

Conclusively, nurse practitioners have a part to play to bestow social change among communities concerning mental health. The stigmatization present in the society about mental health condition is most likely to end if nurse practitioners educated and provided relevant information about these disorders. Ultimately, fostering social change in the society.
