There is much influence from interest groups and lobbyists on politicians in the office. The two groups try to achieve their objectives by influence. Also, they attempt to seek whether they have succeeded in doing so because of supporting those whose interests are in alignment with theirs. The decision to lobby is dependent on the candidates who are supportive of their views and the relevant committees that push for their interests on the floor of the House or Senate. 

Interest groups and lobbyists alike often attempt to gain access by first supporting incumbent candidates. These candidates must be sympathetic to their views and are accessible after assuming positions in office. Further, interest groups through political action committees (PACS) collect funds from donors and distribute them to candidates who have their interests. Their support for the candidates is to be accessible to lawmakers who will push for their interests. Furthermore, lawmakers, due to the general nature of policies may not pursue every issue. Therefore, interest groups and lobbyists to give them details about proposals and fellow lawmakers' stands.

Also, they target members of the relevant committee and use this to their advantage. 

When legislation is presented on the floor of the House/Senate, interest groups target both lawmakers and committees involved. Due to familiarity with a specific issue, these committees push for the lobbyists’ interests. Also, since legislation has to pass both chambers in its identical form, interest groups and lobbyist target these committees because they filter the differences. Slight ironing of the differences could mean numerous profits or advantages for the group. 

In conclusion, the decision on which lawmakers to lobby is dependent on the candidates who are supportive of their views and the relevant committees that push for their interests on the floor of the House or Senate. Interest groups and lobbyist decide to lobby lawmakers who when into office will consider and support their interests. Besides, these lawmakers will have an influence on relevant committees regarding specific issues of interest when legislation is on the floor.
