People have had issues with minimum wage in the country, with some people opposing the idea of raising the minimum wage while others support the idea. Those who see the low minimum wage as less beneficial in the country claim that a rise in the minimum wage would lead to unemployment. On the other side, those who see its merits claim that it is the tool to help people cooperate with the high standard of living in the country.

As A Center for Public Policy Priorities

Thompson’s bill is about raising the minimum wage in Texas above the Federal level., There is a need to have a useful technique for lobbying for the support of some of the best and the most influential interest groups in the state to lobby for such a bill ( Sadi&Ramos Meneghetti, 2019). While lobbying for a bill to raise the minimum wage in the state, both direct and indirect techniques can be of great help. Direct methods where the lobbyist or the interest group will have to devise a straightforward way of communicating and influencing those who are in charge of the legislation process. Indirect techniques are where they use the third party ( Shao, Punt & Wesseler, 2018).

One of the direct techniques is to collaborate with other groups that have similar interests. In the case of the minimum wage, workers unions can be an excellent example of a group that the lobbyist can sort their attention, collaborate with them and push the state's government to consider Thompson’s bill. One of the indirect technique that could work in this case is generating public pressure ( Hafner-Fink et al., 2016). Note that the use of public pressure aims to mask the content of the activities the lobbyists are carrying out. In that case, it creates an impression that the large position of the public is concerned with the matters. In this case, generating a public pressure by educating the workers and making them understand the need to raise the minimum wage and help them pile pressure on the state governments could work better to make the bill pass.

Representing Texas Restaurant Association

If I were representing Texas with a motive to defeat the bill, I would focus on collaborating with groups that would make the public view this idea as negative. I would lobby for public education and explain for them issues such as unemployment that are likely to occur in case the bill goes through. Making the public to understand the negative side of the law would generate public pressure to aid in defeating the bill. Working with alliances such as workers union could work in this case (Hofman&Aalbers, 2017). Furthermore, presenting research on these matters that negate it could also work. Generating public opinion and showing how people have negative views and opinions on these matters could also work to make the bill fail. Garnering the support of some of the legislature drafting the bill and convincing them on the impending issues that could arise due to the law and tarnish their good work could also be a good technique ( Goyes, 2018).

As a legislator

As a legislator, I would first consider both sides and make them present their arguments on the matter. I would then do my research considering how a rise in the minimum wage would affect both employers and employees, and the best way to find common ground that would be beneficial for both the employers and employees. I would then research how other states are approaching this mater and put this as a consideration. I will then decide after carefully considering such facts. Voting could also be an approach I could consider while deciding on this matter.
